I was watching the movie- again and I wondered to myself why wouldn't such a candid, great movie be at the movies? Is it because it's too long, or what? If it were in theaters, would it have the same commercial success as movies like "Ray"? Just a thought.......

Interesting thought. I don't think anyone could have predicted the commercial success this TV movie had. Look at all the interest in the group that came about as a result of the movie. Back then those kinds of movies were not looked upon as money makers, for example The Five Heartbeats, a movie that is very popular yet got little reaction from movie goers. I think that movie was used as a barometer to see if the Temptations should go on TV or in theatres.

ABA, You hit it on the head!. The reaction to THE TEMPTATIONS is/was unbelievable. I was discussing the impact with a friend. I too watched the movie this week for the umpteenth time. I have lots of copies of the movies (in case one wears out), and still I find myself with tears in my eyes at various times.
Anyway, this friend and I were discussing the impact of THE TEMPTATIONS on us. No matter 40+ years have gone by. We miss them. We love the present Tempts.

There were no bankable stars in the movie, which infers limited success at the box office. And what would be the audience for this movie? TV was the perfect venue for this.

Leon hasn't proven to be a bankable star? What was the audience for the Five Heartbeats? I believe Leon was in that one too. ;D

I don't think the suits and bean counters in LA considered Leon to be bankable. You're not going to get a lot of affirmation in one of those Century City producers meetings.

I agree. But, there are many movies without many bankable stars that were successful. We just need the right kind of trailer to get audiences' attention.......... ;D

I hear you..........they are not going to put the marketing money behind these kinds of films like you would with say........War of the Worlds............but some money would certainly have helped push both of these films............

I so agree the movie should be put in theaters!! I'm a new fan myself thanks to the movie proving the phase "Temptations forever!!". Leon?! Not a bankable star?! I think some of those Hollywood hotshots & Leon need to trade places....clearly they the ones on crack & should be in the movie!!!! I own the movie & if it came out in theaters now, I'd see it anyway, & I'd see it 11 times or more(I saw Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl 11 times in theaters just to let you know what I was referring to.). We should get a fan rally going to get it in theaters!! What ya'll think. Email me/write me back asap. *Krystal.S

Thank you, thank you!! I know I'm not the only one who feels like this Let's start a rally up. If they can get the "Honeymooners" in theaters, they surely can get a great bio-pic (Aside the flaws) on the big screen Yay Leon And Terron, Christian, D.B,and CMW

Rally it is, dang I must like rallys. I started up a NEWSIES fan rally recently, trying to get that together. Anyways "Temptations forever" Lets get the rally started. Anyone interested, post the idea on your sites or go to others & spread the word. Whoever has Terrons site should post it there(if he don't mind of course). Come on everyone, Temps in theaters!! What worthier cause could there be?!

It would have been nice to see this movie if drive-in's still exsisted. We'd be in the car, in our jammers and snacks out the ying-yang fa-sho!
