How was Eddie's leaving the Temptations a surprise? Eddie was recording "All By Myself" during 1970 at the time "The Sky's the Limit" was being recorded. Eddie and the guys recorded in the same studios and used the same musicians. It was that much of a secret as close as Motown was? Has anyone else ever thought this? Maybe they thought Eddie wasn't leaving and just doing a solo side project?

He said because back in those days if someone did a solo project it was understood that they were going to leave the group.

Things really must have changed within a year because the Jackson 5 spun off Michael and Jermaine nearly about the same time. It didn't mean the end of the group.... but then again, their projects weren't really solo but Jackson 5 projects headlined by Michael and Jermaine... carry on.
