well in today's era of music who is the best? female i think its hands down alicia keys!! she has one of them foces that make you go wow...plus she is beautiful to go along with it!! a close second would be Mary J. and then beyonce Male is hard to say i mean i would put John Legend is up there, maybe carl thomas, some may say Usher or maybe even justin timberlake. I'm a big fan of John legend though because he has that old school style to him that i like.

I can only think of Ryan Shaw as having the best voice. He is simply amazing, imo. The ladies? Hm??? Maybe MJB. The only problem I have, though, is that I don't listen to much of the contemporary music.

Legend's pretty good but he gets really affected in his delivery. I can only take so much of his voice. Mary J. tends to scream a lot so I don't love her either. She's hardly what one could call a "melodic" singer. Usher's pretty darn good. Justin, too, is really "showbiz" and tries much too hard much of the time. I really like Robin Thicke and Alicia Keys, though I do think Keys sings so hard she may end up losing her voice if she isn't careful. Elliott Yamin also has one heck of a voice. I like the feel of it and he's relentlessly melodic.

I agree stilltempting, Alicia Keys, hands down is the best female singer of today, IMO
Male singer of today? ...thinking... Geez, as much as I hate to admit it for personal issues, but R Kelly would be my choice. I know, with a comment like that I'm living in a glass house. But please folks, don't throw no stones.

I have to agree with Miss Tara. The man sounds the same live as on CD.

I was sitting here TRYING to think of someone else to say EXCEPT R Kelly, but lets face it, his personal drama has no affect on his ability to SANG!

She really can SANG...and it just all comes so naturally... and R. Kelly is my favorite male R & B artist....yea, he might not be the best person morally but his songs get the job done...

Mary J is my favorite among the females. Brian McNight is my favorite among the males.
