Does anyone know what Ray Davis sounded like when he spoke? Is there an interview somewhere online? I like to compare the Bass singers of the Tempts. Their voices resemble each other in some ways, but differences can definitely be noticed. I've only heard Ray speak once, and that was a spoken part on "What a difference a day makes". If anyone has an footage or audio of the late bass singer speaking, could you upload it please? Thanks.

I believe you. Its funny how all the Temptations' bass singers sound identical when they sing, but when they speak, you can hear the differences easier. I can always tell Harry from Melvin because Harry had a Barry White type of purr when he spoke. Melvin's voice was always loud and booming like it was whenever he sang. I've heard Joe Herndon in concert with the Tempts, but the microphone quality didn't really bring out his power. Ray is the only bass singer I've never heard speak in normal conversation. I'd love to hear it someday.

Turns out I've answered my own question. lol. I found this clip on youtube. Harry McGilberry is found here, and so is Ray Davis towards the end. You hear both Ray and Harry talk for a while, and you even see a small sample Ray Davis singing Old man river. To me, Ray's voice resembles Melvin's. They both have this strong depth and fullness when they speak. Check it out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yikPnVqKEos

And Ray sure had some voice! I think I like his voice even better than Blue's ... It's sad that there's not more footage about him around. I had seen the Harry interview before, and I was quite impressed with his openness. Harry became one of my fav's since I ventured out into the world of other excellent groups, such as the Futures, for example. In that group, Harry's voice really, really was used very well in my opinion. Thanks again for the clips.

I saw Ray when he joined the Temps and near the end of his life as he sang with Glenn's group. He was a professional at all time and very fan friendly. One of his last appearances was here in jersey not far from where I live. Ray was one of the great bass singers of our time.
