Does anyone know why the Tempts weren't involved in the "We are the world" recording session? Were they on tour at the time or something? As a matter of fact, I noticed that there weren't too many former Motown stars involved with the single at all. I know Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson had solo parts, and I saw Smokey Robinson and some of the Jacksons singing in the choir part. I feel that it was a missed opportunity. Melvin's voice would have been nice to hear on the song. And Ali-Ollie Woodson would have brought that song home!!! I can hear those high squeals now.

Maybe because Stevie, Diana, and Smokey were still churning out the big hits and the Tempts weren't. Or not as much as they ave been previously.

It was largely just a congregation of the biggest pop stars of the day with a few music legends and celebrities tossed in. You had Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Huey Lewis, Lionel Richie, The Pointer Sisters, Kenny Loggins, Kenny Rogers, Dionne Warwick, Al Jarreau, Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac), Steve Perry (Journey), Kim Carnes, Daryl Hall & John Oates, James Ingram, Billy Joel, Willie Nelson and others with Ray Charles and Bob Dylan. Most of those artists had big hits either around that time or the year prior. The real question is who let LaToya Jackson in the door?

The real question is who let LaToya Jackson in the door? Michael did of course! Besides... she can sing! Just not as well as the others... Maybe the Tempts were not at the awards. I thought the video and recording session took place after the Grammys, right? Maybe the Tempts didn't attend that year.
