As far as the history of music goes, how relevant are the temptations?

I would say that the Tempts kept up with the times. Music has evolved a lot over the years: from doo-wop, to disco, to neo-soul. Like Otis said, they're always doing something different, but they have had their dry spells. I think that's what set the Tempts apart from other groups and performers. Although they had their set backs, they kept going. IMO, the Temptations never had the same magic after the departure of Ed and Paul, but you got to give it to them as far as keeping it together!

I think the temptations are very relevant. They are a group with timeless hits that spread over now almost 5 decades of people!! you go to there show's you see every age group from little children to the older people clapping and singing along to every song like they were just released!! Many groups have come and gone over the years but the temptations have always been there for people to enjoy and never forget! the saying is true "The Temptations Forever"........Here's a story i Work at Cedar Point and for the people who don't what that is its an amusement park here in Sandusky Ohio voted best park in the world 7years in a row now, but any way there was a Employee talent show held a week that me and my friend performed in. We wasn't sure what we wanted to do but we knew we were going to sing. Finally we decided on a song that everyone knew because At Cedar point the employee's come from everywhere The US, ecuador, colombia, bulgaria, tawian, singapore, poland, and so on. The song was My Girl. We was the first act to go which made me nervous, but from the first note of the song the crowd went nuts!! it was so loud that we could hardly hear the music to sing the song!! We had the dance steps down and everything. It was just great seeing so many different cultures of people come together and know a song like that we had a good feeling after we came off stage that night, and after 18 acts Joe & Cody were named Cedar Points hidden Talent for the 2007 Season!!......so in closing The Temptations Music is Very Relevant as far as i'm concerned!

That reminds me of something that happened at my middle school a few months ago. At a black history program, our band did a medley of Motown songs ("I Heard It Through the Grapevine", "My Girl", and "ABC"). When that first note of "My Girl" sounded, almost EVERYONE in the auditorium started singing along. As I sang along, I was grinning the whole time like this ------------> ;D

One girl in my Physical Science class wrote in my yearbook: "You have the greatest taste in music!" It's nice to know I'm not the only one my age who likes the oldies. Maybe I'm not a weirdo after all!

I agree wholeheartedly! WTF is "Ay Bay Bay" anyway? That has got to be one of the STUPIDEST songs I've ever heard!!! Music of the 50s, 60s, and 70s had substance and meaning, like you said. Now, music is just plain ________. (Fill in the blank any way you like ;D)
