sammy sosa-even non baseball fans know who he is -
was discovered in tuesday's game for the chicago cubs to be using a bat that was doctored up with cork to illegally make the ball jump off his bat farther. rules strictly forbid enhanced bats. sammy also has admitted using steroids to enhance his performance. sammy was kicked out of the game and faces fines and suspensions and possible loss of endorsements and fan disillusionment.
does this tarnish the image one of america's most popular home run hitters of all time?
does this mean he cheated in the past to set those records?
why is this important- because the integrity of our pasttime as well as our businesses like enron and arthur andersen show that lying and cheating incidents are happening with more frequency- should it concern us?
is dishonesty overblown or do ethics and morals count for something?

don't know nothin' about Sammy and bats, sukka...but wanted to tell you to keep your eye on the Padre's X-man...his dad is a friend of mine and X grew up through little league with my son  . He was a legend in town even as a little kid and pre-teen. |

wow! we love xavier nady ! he was named the national league rookie of the month on monday! he's terrific! i believe he's going to be a star in the major leagues! thanks for that info- wow kalisa- you know dennis and x man- that's 2 reasons i admire you for!  i was at the game last night and xavier hit a double and scored . |

Wow, the media is just tearin Sosa to pieces on this one! But I don't watch baseball and keep track of all incidents that may have happened, so I dunno what's up with Sammy. Everybody used to love him, but now everyone's talking about how much he sucks. I would have never thought Sosa was a fake, so I really can't say.

it may be blown out of proportion but he's so strong why does he need assistance especially when it's illegal?
he said that it's due to a mistake- that he uses the bat to show off for the fans in batting practice- but he doesn't need that there either- the pitcher throws the ball slow during batting practice so that the hitters can get good solid hits . sammy also uses steroids which are not illegal yet in baseball but also unnaturally enhance performance.
i think sammy should rely on natural ability.

sammy's 76 bats are all cork free! it seems to support his story thst he used the one corked bat by mistake. i hope so. maybe if he's off steroids too that will help his image .

Sammy said that he made a mistake, so I believe him. How many other's have used a corked bat and either never was caught or just fined? This should not tarnish his image in any way, what he has done for the game of baseball is more than many other players could only think about doing. All his other bats that were X-Rayed came up negative. I'm not saying that he should get away scott free but don't make this other than what it is. I think the news media just want something to write about, this story sells papers, it's something to show on TV. Hopefully he doesn't use steroids, like many athletes, passed and present have done. If that's the case, would Mark McGuire's record, at that time, still stand or should that be tarnished too.

Sukka I believe that's about the same as Albert Belle and others who had a corked bat before.
I don't know, He's been around since the early 90's, I couldn't find his career stats. Seems like he came out of the woodwork not too long before the summer of 98. I'm sure he got plenty of playin time, but all of a sudden he comes out hittin 50-60 homers.

sammy is very strong- he doesn't need cork or steroids- he now needs new public relations help.
i like sammy sosa. he has helped baseball. but this is a glitch that will haunt him for a while.
