Ok, something I've always worked to try to achieve with my sites has been a high degree of user-friendlyness. So, with that in mind, I'd like to hear what things bug you when you're surfing the 'net so I'll have an idea of what NOT to do.
For example. I HATE intro screens. They're cool the first time around, but the 8th and 9th and 47th time, they get old.
Anyone else?

Flash movies! If there is a button that says "Skip Movie," I usually do most of the time. And slow-loading, intensive graphics.....I'm still on a dial up modem, so I really hate that!

those little ads that say "You have an important message waiting for you" or "You're a Winner". When I was teaching K-5 Computer Technology last year, those were a NIGHTMARE It's hard to get kids to understand that those are just ads that will take you to an endless variety of other sites. They all think they've WON something and want to click on it. BTW Ivory - LOVE the new avatar. That is a great picture of you.

Ok, I'm puttin' down "no flash intros," "no junk mail" and "no dancin' monkeys" on my list of what NOT to do. I'm sure I am guilty of having my images too big. Thanks dallas. I'm trying to encourage everyone to feel comfortable doing the same. I've been to other boards where almost everyone has their photo as their avatar and I thought it was cool. Makes things a lot more personal (or personable.) Of course I respect that some won't want to do it and that's cool. I just wish my darn eyes weren't so squinty!!!! If they were bigger, my forehead wouldn't look so big!!! :hairraiser: Oh well, at least y'all know why my nick name is "IVORY FAIR" because I AM the PALEST woman on earth!!! ;D But I do have to give it up to C, our pioneer in that department!!! I just wish he'd put up a photo of himself in his Krispy Kreme uniform!!!!

1. People taking my Dramatics pictures from my website and not providing a link to my website or anything like that. 2. "Cannot Find Server" pages!!! 3. Getting so excited while doing a search on something when you think you have found exactly what you are looking for, and when you go there, the page no longer exists. 4. Pictures so small, you need a magnifying glass to see them. 5. Little red x's instead of pictures. 6. Popups so big, they freeze the screen. 7. Search engines that don't given you what you want.

I don't mind posting a picture of myself, but I wouldn't want it in my avatar because people will get sick of seeing my picture every single time I post. Maybe we should have a thread where we all post pictures of ourselves. There are pictures of me on my website, perhaps I could post the link to the particular page.

People taking my Dramatics pictures from my website and not providing a link to my website or anything like that.
Now that's always been a bit of an ethical debate for me. I know, generally, people don't want their web site photos swiped or at least not without their consent so I don't make a habit of doing it unless my doing so benefits them directly. (Like I'm helping to advertise something they're selling.) That's understandable and I know I'm certainly against using ORIGINAL photos that exist on various sites. But when it's a photo that I scanned from a book or an album or whatever, to me, that's another matter. All I did was "swipe" it from whomever owned the copyright from the original photo, so I don't really feel comfortable telling OTHER people they can't swipe them from me. Does that make any sense? but I wouldn't want it in my avatar because people will get sick of seeing my picture every single time I post. So, are you sick of me already?

"Forced" music. Give me a choice if I want to listen or not, by clicking. Pages and/or pictures that fade in and out...I don't have patience to go back after the first one. Pages where half my screen is taken up by the header or banner, making me scroll to see if there is anything worth seeing down below. The less scrolling, the happier I am .

i agree with you all. i agree with kalisa about the fade in stuff- ron tyson's site annoys me - it is cool for one time, like a pie in the face joke is. IVORY-your forehead is beautiful, and so is the rest of you! TDALLAS- i am glad YOU consider me your brother!woohoo!

No, Ivory, I'm not sick of seeing you! Or anyone else with an avatar picture. I just don't want some people getting sick of seeing me, LOL!
I hate it when someone takes an original picture of mine, but if it's from an album that almost everyone has, I don't mind.
