Jimmy Ruffin sang this song when I was growing up and it was as big a hit as any song of its Time.
As I walk this land of Broken dreams I have visions of many things But Happiness is just an illusion Filled with Sadness and confusion What Becomes of The Broken Hearted Who had love that's now departed I know I've got to find Some kind of peace of mind
I also liked: I've Passed This Way Before As Long As There I s L-O-V-E Love
As much as I liked those tunes, I could not hear Jimmy as a Temptation. He was good in his way but to me he was lacking something to be a Temptation voice.

jimmy was a motown artist, but not temptation material, although his fingerprints are at the scene of several tempts sessions. brokenhearted is such a classic. i know it's been used in several commercials.

I dunno, Otis said in his book that they could have easily went with Jimmy instead of David. The one thing that sealed the deal was David's impromptu performance with them (the one that's portrayed in the movie.)

Do you think Otis said that to downplay David's importance?

Eddie said exactly the same thing in the Street Gold video. Both Eddie and Otis agreed that Jimmy and David were both excellent singers and that the decision made to go with David was not made on the singing voice. Both Otis and Eddie said that the only reason they went with David was that he "fit" the Temptations better. He fit them in age although Jimmy was only a year or two older than David. He fit them in size. Jimmy was bigger than David. Both Jimmy and David had been with the Temptations in the station wagon. Both had gone over to Otis' house and sang with them for fun.
And somewhere I read another Tempt said the same thing. While Jimmy said he was asked first to be a Temptation, none of the Temptations I have read have said that. But I have often wondered if they would have had fewer problems with Jimmy. Interestingly, Jimmy said the same thing about drugs that Otis did. "I never wanted something "else" to control me." Jimmy always said that David, and probably few people, are ever prepared for the onslaught of success and fame that came to the Temptations.

I loved Jimmy's voice. My mother used to play "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted" all the time. She had a wonderful Motown greatest hits album and that song was one of the songs on the album. My father used to do this little dance move to that song.....but then again when I look back at it he did that dance with every song and.......you know he still does that dance today. LOL!!! ;D He always tells me that he learned that dance in 1957 and he didn't see the need to change it. ;D

Well I hate to say it but after a certain amount of time you tend yo keep what looks good on you. I am still doing the same dance step I have done for awhile now. I don't see no need to change it either. Nobody I dance with is doing anything better than me either unless she's 20 years younger than me and then I'm forgiven if I can't keep up. But I'm smoooooooooth though wit' my step!!!!!!!!!

the c-walk and the bunny hop and the dances stevie and cheski are doing make me laugh. dancing and cheerleading look more like gymnastics and less like steps. i watched star search 2 weeks ago and 1 group kept doing back flips . they lost to another group that focused more on steps .

But back to the subject.... HEE, just kidding. I remember in high school....you know they vote for "Best Hair", "Most Likely to Succeed," etc.? They had a "Best Dancer" award, and I wanted that one so bad! But they gave it to this girl who danced during a pageant during Labor Day. I always thought to myself, "I deserved that award! But she was the only dancer they knew!" Envy gets you nowhere. HEE Anyway...I love this song, too.....especially that line: "Help me, Please...." (after the chorus) I bought a compilation *just* to have to have this song and "Black Pearl." Peach

Sticking to the thread....we used to do a hand dance to that song in DC and if you could dance you looked real smooth on it. Well we danced on stage in my high School during lunch hour which was something unique in itself. On the day we went to the championship game I was chillin' in the audience wit my girl when the principal came out and stopped the music. He made everyone sit down and then he opened the curtain and Stevie WOnder was up there singing My Cherie Amour. It was a present to the BB team for the championship. How bout that! The year was 1968.

Okay ABA I am officially jealous. The best we could come up with in high school to perform was a guy lip synching to one of Luther Vandross' songs.
