Has anyone read this book?
I was listening to Runaway Child, Running Wild last night (it has become my current new favorite Tempt song ;D) and I was reminded of this book. It's by Tayari Jones. I believe it's based on the Atlanta child killings of all those years ago. I read it during my holiday break last December and although RC, RW is a nice little song, I couldn't help but shed a few tears.
You heard some frightening news on the radio About little boys running away from home And their parents don't see them no more You wanna hitch a ride and go home But your mama told you never trust a stranger And you don't know which way to go
That part in the song is just like the part in the book where the boy ran away after his father took the belt to him in front of all his classmates at school. He got lost after a while and this man pretending to be a police officer offered him a ride home.
