hey holmes- i was watchin' the DENZELL classic REMEMBER THE TITANS last night for the 50th time and i paid strict attention to the exact number of TEMPTS' songs in it as well as other motown songs.
by the way, there are a lot of terrific songs in the movie-not just motown but rock, pop, etc.
here's the motown songs-
ain't too proud to beg(sung by the kids at lunch) you've got to earn it(playing in the background right after at the lunch scene) superstar( when petie is put in at defense) the way you do the things you do(playing on the car radio as the white kids try to get gary to leave the black kids behind) ain't no mountain high enough(sung by the team in the locker room with the radio and also on the bus and the closing credits) i heard it through the grapevine( background during one scene when the coach is moving his family into the white neighborhood)
other good songs are one by ike and tina-their version of sly's take you higher, and the chambers brothers' time. also peace train, fire and rain,na na hey hey goodbye, long cool woman, them changes by buddy miles. ;D

50 times? That's gotta be a record. Although, I remember in '99 when the miniseries was at its heyday we were all vying for viewing frequency. After that Motown countdown, I may have to grab my DVD this weekend and watch it again...for the 3rd time. You know, that would make a nice back to school party video...grill a few burgers and pop in the movie.

Hey Sukkafu, 50 times is a lot! However, I can dig it... That movie brought back lots of memories for me. I grew up in Prince George's County, MD - on the other side of DC. The schools in Fairfax, VA as well as PG County were all desegregated around the same time - 1971. The music, all the sports teams' trials and tribulations, school clubs, etc. all went through very similar situations. In our case, the students got along great! The parents were the ones going nuts over it. The Motown sound was alive and well during those days. Music really is the soundtrack of our lives. I can remember certain events and people just by thinking about songs that were hot back then. I was a Jackson 5 and a Tempt fanatic in those days. The more things change.... the more they stay the same, eh?

We got to watch that movie in school! I was so happy that all those songs were on there! It was kinda embarrassing though because everyone knows I love the Temptations, so, everytime one of their songs came on (that they KNEW was their song) they would stare at me. It was kinda creepy....

Sukkafu, You ought to remember the Carter Baron amphitheater up in Rock Creek Park. Lots of good shows back then. I saw The Miracles, The Tempts, Stevie Wonder, The O'Jays, etc. - all the legends of the day did shows out there... also the Howard Theater at 7th and T in DC. Uh Oh, my age is showing! Jonel, a back to "Old School" party with the Titans movie, the Motown sound, BBQ chicken, burgers and steaks, and a few fanatic Tempts fans - sounds like the place to be! ;D

Okay then, we'll do this bbq up right! I'll be glad to bring the hamburgers and salads.
Ivory, I don't know what it is, but when I post on the boards and make cyberfriends, my imagination always takes me to a party or food or something. FLS is sort of like that too. It just makes it more of a warm gathering when there is a little something delicious to share.
I do think you will enjoy REMEMBER THE TITANS. I really like football movies and I love nostalgic movies with great soundtracks. I like DIRTY DANCING and THE BIG CHILL soundtracks too.

yes, i agree with lady jonel. i like those soundtracks too. the big chill came out at the same time as the motown 25th celebration in 1983 so the revival of r and b was set in motion in a big fashion.

Jonel, apparently cyber food is not something unique to Tempts fans. I was on a totally non-Tempts related board and lo and behold they all started eating! No Krispy Kremes though. Cool Sukka! I've never seen it, but I think the Tempts are a big theme in "The Big Chill," everyone in the movie were big fans when they were in high school or something like that.
