I'd believe it, Aba. I watched a police officer talk my brother down in our front yard, threatening to take him to jail just for standing around talking to some friends. And for talking back, which is something I worry about constantly. He might end up saying the wrong thing to somebody one day.

I won't be talked down to or disrespected by any man, policeman or not. It's not necessary to treat people bad for no reason. I realize it may be a little difficult to "talk down" to me, huh?!!! ;D But young african-american men need to realize that their life expectancy is only to 24 years old on the average. Most are in jail, been in jail, waiting to go to jail or in the judicial system somewhere, or dead by that age. I don't believe that being in jail is some sort of "BADGE OF HONOR". But in some places you can come home and say you just got your masters and people will say Oh you a smart ni%$#@# now! But if you say you been in jail you become some kind of hero or something! It's crazy but it's true! I guess I was just born.........oh wrong song, wrong place!

Yup, Aba, it's like that now. I don't know why folks act like they don't want to realize that being in jail is nothing to be proud of. That is, unless you were taken in for standing up for something like Dr. King and others were. (Like how I brought the subject back around like that? ;D)

''southern trees bear strange fruit blood on the leaves blood at the root black bodies swinging in the southern breeze strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees pastoral scene of the gallant south the bulging eyes and the twisted mouth the scent of magnolia sweet and fresh then the sudden smell of burning flesh here is a fruit for the crows to pluck for the rain to gather for the wind to suck for the sun to rot for the tree to drop here is a strange and bitter crop''

Yeah, you all know I love hip-hop, but I get so tired of all the songs where they give shout-outs to folks in jail. That's just wrong.

Are they "do your thing, boy!" shout-outs or the "keep your head up" kind?

keep your head up for what-if you do the crime you do the time. in your cell, keep your head down, get on your knees and start asking God to forgive you and to give you strength to repent and right the wrongs you did if possible, and to forgive you for hurting you mother and family and your neighbors and everything you represent. dr. king was falsely imprisoned, but he didn't need repenting. he kept focused on his goals and on the Lord.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, sukkafu. Everyone in prison is not guilty, and I will never believe otherwise unless the system changes the way it administers its so-called justice. Those are the keep your head up's that I'm talking about.

well, warts and all, it's still the best system on the planet, but it has a huge amount of room for improvement. i sure wouldn't ever want to go to jail for anything, especially in a foreign country.
