This article was in the May 10thTrenton, NJ TIMES Newspaper along with a picture of Richard Street in light colored shirt and pants looking trim, handsome, distinguished but solemn. "Former Temptation Richard Street will be honored during an 8 p.m. special concert event tomorrow at the Radisson Hotel Grand Ballroom, Routes 73 and 295 in Mount Laurel.
Sponsored by TKM Productions, the MOtown/Philadelphia-themed event.....the vocal group LMNT will perform"Papa Was a Rolling Stone" in tribute to Street, who won a Grammy for the song in 1972 when he was with the Temptations.
A one-time member of the Monitors, Street jointed the Temptations in 1971 when founding members Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams left, and spent nearly two decades with the legendary group."

I was surprised and glad to see Richard Street recognized in South Jersey. I think the newspaper article should have mentioned how Richard was first performing with Otis, and Melvin as teens BEFORE they were Temptations which gives him very deep roots in the Temptation legacy. I was so attached to Paul Williams that I could not whole heartedly accept Richard taking his place although one of my favorite Temptations song is HEAVENLY. The same thing happened with me when after Ricky Owens fiasco in Washington DC of not remembering the words to Just My Imagination,DAMON sang and I had my mouth poked out and was FURIOUS it wasn't EDDIE KENDRICKS. Poor tenor Glen Leonard got the same treatment from me, AND Louis Price. I acknowledged that Ali Woodson had an excellent voice, tremendous range but Temptation concerts had my arms folded still yearning for what would never be again, Otis, Paul, Eddie, David OR Dennis and Melvin all together. UNTIL RON TYSON sang on Motown 25 I sat up and smiled cause I had FOUND my Temptation Tenor.

It was in September, 1999 sitting just a few seats away from IVORY at Caesars in Atlantic City, watching IVORY DANCE in the aisle a little behind me to the left (I didn't KNOW Ivory then but I sure REMEMBER her ;o) that I FOUND FOUR of MY TEMPTATIONS AGAIN. There they were, my heart, OTIS, my tenor, RON, fine TERRY, and when BO sang PROMISE I took my eyes off OTIS and RON and said "WHO is HE?" Cause up until then for DECADES all I would really look at was OTIS and then RON in 1983. Poor HARRY, who sounded just wonderful and had women squealing. I couldn't BEAR to look at him. I was mourning MELVIN, whose passing was just like loosing a family member. It wasn't until 2001 when my front row seat at a Trenton concert was almost in front of HARRY and he FLIRTED with me, like only HARRY can do, that I FINALLY had all of my 5 TEMPTATIONS, OTIS, RON, HARRY, TERRY, and BO. YES, now. I could compare them with the Classic Temptations. In 1963, the Classic Temptations (minus David) were not at the Harlem, APOLLO, INSTANT razzle dazzle. For meThey beCAME sensational in 1965 and showed that MAGIC that made me almost forget my NAME. (EDDIE looking into my eyes.) However, on Friday, August 24, 2001 the Temptations showed Magic AGAIN with showmanship that was breathtaking. No, I don't think they capture it every single time I see them, although I always LOVE their show, love how they all relate to people, now more than ever.. A special magic like THAT summer Friday is ELUSIVE. But I hope that I will have another chance to be a witness to the MAGIC that only the TEMPTATIONS, the ORIGINATORS of class, harmony, dance, and style can possess. The Legacy CONTINUES and I thank God I am still here to witness it.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HA HA HAAAAAAAAA!!!!!You remember me from AC? ? Which show was that? If I was over your left shoulder that must have been Sat. night (because I was all the way over to the right on Sunday night.) It was in the middle section, right? Not the front "high roller" section, right? I can't believe that, how funny!!!! Well, you may not realize it, but you also saw that night, "Fair Lady Soul" and "Deputy Janet" as well as a few other ladies who I don't think you've "met" online yet. I remember FLS and I made it clear to everyone we were sitting on the EDGE of the booth because we wanted to be able to get up if the spirit moved us! And boy did it! (I had to promise my mother I'd sit in my seat and behave and not embarrass her at the last show I went to or she wasn't giving me my ticket, LOL!) And you should have heard the crowd the next night, some ladies behind us actually got mad and told us to sit down. I suppose they had a point, we were behaving WAY too wildly for the wake-like attitude the rest of the audience had going on. One day I want to go to a Tempts' show that has a dance floor in front of the stage, now THAT would be fun! Jonel, do you have our concert reviews from that show? 9/99 Atlantic City, Caesars. Anyway, that's great about Richard. Also great that he's doing well (see, I told y'all he wasn't dying!!! LOL!) And did I misunderstand you Charm or were you actually at the performance when Ricky messed up the lyrics? If you were, PLEASE tell us about it!

what a great trip down memory lane charmonee3! ;D i wish i was into the tempts back in1965. i was a beatles freak(still am) and didn't really discover motown til christmas 1967 when i got a new record player, a beatles record and a smokey record-i second that emotion. then in 1969 i heard cloud 9 in my friends' brother's car. it blew me away. then in 1970 we were in a pizzeria in ny after a ny yankee ballgame and we heard ball of confusion on the juke box. my friend henry would laugh every time he heard blue say and the band played on. i remember riding in my brother's car and him blasting the radio and singing papa......

Glad to hear someone thinks the present Tempts are as great as I do. And, it's true, Harry has a special charm. Otis said that Harry's voice is uncannily like Melvin's.
Does anyone know where Awesome is on the charts? Or just how it is doing. I really like it.

Unfortunately they don't seem to be on the Billboard R&B top 20 chart or the adult top 20 chart and I can't find anything that shows the 40 albums in either category. I'm afraid to say that Awesome may not be doing as well as Phoenix Rising did.
(sounds like it's time for another movie O!)

I'm very surprised as well, I've been listening to Awesome more and more, and it is a very good album. I hope that it is doing better than we think.

I discovered MY GIRL is 23 on the charts. There aren't that many Awesome albums available. Maybe, let's hope so, it is doing better than we think.
