"To all my people who never left Mississippi and continue to struggle...keep trying, don't give up. Come with me on this journey. We will sail down the river of sadness and tears. We will find an island of joy. We will find light at the end of the tunnel. All tears are not of sorrow. We will cry tears for all occasions: tears of love, tears of hope, tears of joy.
This book is not about being poor, lonely, afraid and black, living in Mississippi. People of different color and race have lived my story. But being black attaches an extra burden to anyone's load. I was never Lost. I always knew who I was, and that someday I was going to be someone special.
