I had gotten used to seeing the DVD version of the movie, and when I saw my cousin's VHS, my feelings were hurt. I didn't see Paul singing "For Once In My Life," Otis and Paul at Paul's house...all of that was missing. Truth be told, I almost got teary-eyed. That's when I knew I had been watching the movie too much, lol. ;D

when i was watching the 150 min vhs, i felt bad about the missing scenes. i have the 2 tape 176 min version from nbc about a month now and it makes so much more sense to the story.

I missed you Sukkafu.
Why didn't someone warn me? Why didn't I ask you before I found it?
I finally received "In a Mellow Mood." And from the first note, I was immensely saddened and happy. Happy because the voices were so beautiful. And sad because four are gone. But it was so sad that I wasn't sure I could listen to it. But I have, five times straight through. I just keep playing it over and over again.
I guess I have to keep thinking of Smokey's song, "Be Careful What You Wish For, You just might get it." And the line "success can destroy you."

I still haven't been able to access my messages that are mentioned at the top.
Puff-Daddy, I think it was probably the saving grace of Otis that he wasn't the lead singer or the standout entertainer, or he may have suffered the problems the others did. Well Melvin got through O.K. But Otis was called the "quiet one" way back in the early '60's by reporters interviewing them. And that is curious because he was the one who represented them with management and spoke out for their rights. And tried to get them jobs and keep their contracts. I think that is one reason they always (except for a few months) had a recording contract. Diana Ross is without one now. And he may simply have been the one with "business" sense as Ivory said or "common sense, level-headedness" as Mama Rose said. And that quality may explain why we still enjoy the Tempts today and why they are still a quality act.
I remember a recent show during the "My Girl" segment when members of the audience are on the stage. One young blonde girl whispered something to Ron, and his immediate response was, "Let's keep this show clean." No one heard what she said, but Ron let everyone know what kind of person he was. And I congratulate him for that.
So many entertainers today know only one word whose first letter is "F." And I refuse to let them entertain me.
So if Otis tries to make sure that the people who are Tempts are clean then all power to him.

janebse, you are so right about Otis should be congratulated on keeping his group clean. He had too many examples from group members. From David to Ali, sometimes I wonder was Damon on something. The reason way I ask that question was, The Temptations were too eager to get him out of the group. Berry said he was lacking in effort on songs but with that voice and those hits they had with him there, it had to be something more than that. Otis said in his book about Ali, he was going around bad mouthing the group so he had to go. Later on people found out it was drugs. I hope I'm wrong about Damon because he had a great first tenor voice and I liked him in the group.

it is totally true janebse. i like the clean sound. the raw animalistic garbage of today shows no class. to be outrageous is making a push to be accepted ,and the decent folks are supposed to be a thing of the past. if the stuff of today was good, we'd embrace it more. the same thing with movies. the junk should be ignored. acting has been replaced by special effects and shock value. the ''actors'' of today get 20 million dollars for flops. the ''singers'' of today get millions for flashing belly buttons and dancing like a dog in heat, while singing suggestive lyrics. the family, the flag, marriage, religion, the country, the constitution, decency, courtesy, respect, manners, culture, class, have all been under major attack. the tempts are ''not cool'' to many today but i think more would accept it if there wasn't peer pressure. the people exposed to good quality music and books and movies find themselves surprised at the quality they've beeen missing!

Dbaby, I know what you mean. D Woodside was in a movie called "Scarred City," where he played a thug and he beat people and cursed and it was so un-Melvin like I had to turn it off! LOL! Puff and Diva, what about the scene where they are voting David out of the group, or where he and David almost get into a fight after David runs onto the stage? O didn't seem to angelic to me there. Anyway, it was his movie, you didn't EXPECT him to dog his own self out did you? Hey (((((Luvn)))))!!! Diva, Valley Val was able to do Flash on this board (see the playground) but not ever having done it myself, I don't know what the trick is. Puff, if I had a nickle for every time the Big O-cephus said, "who me?" over the past 4 years during his introduction, well, I'd have a LOT of nickles. .......... Too bad they cut out the "King Otis," skit, I had so much fun yelling at Harry's "at this present juncture."

Ivory how come you moved the topic (just curious)? As for Otis angelic portrayal I think the scene where he was voting to kick David out was still spun in such a way that the naked eye would think well....he was just doing what was best for the group and when he wanted to fight him after he took the lead he handled that again with the groups best interest at heart, waiting until the song was done, protecting the image of the group....eeeeel who put this LOA stick in my hand but like you said what would you expect from the only surviving member (no one really to contest) in another series anyway. Dang I don't recall seeing the King Otis skit. What is it that Harry does? By the way I love him again but that doesn't mean I didn't plan to make good on my threat

'Cause I wanted to put it on the part of the board that was for discussions about the movie because the other board sections need love too! Is that annoying? If it is I won't do it. Well, what about comments like "sharks eatin' his own guts Corn"? You know the King Otis skit they did at concerts. O would be all tired and bent over and then Harry and (Ron?) would come up and rub his head and Harry would say "Is there anything you need at this present juncture," and I would scream and they would call him King Otis. Something like that anyway.

That sounds vaguely familiar. I think it sickened me. Yep, turned my stomach probably cause of the man being treated like a king, ya feel me. I don't know, suffice to say I may not get to see every show but it don't sound like a portion that I would altogether miss, hua!

As for whether you moving the post around is annoying or not I say whatevah it's your board but I do think that although this topic started off about the miniseries that we talked about some other issues so that would make it general but I'm loving it regardless.
