The second night was as great as the first! It's amazing how they can make each performance seem new and fascinating.
As Michelle Kwan won her 9th figure skating national title with her consistency, artistry and great talent, so too did The Temptations with their consistency, artistry and great talent. They did not let their audience down. They were just as fresh, just as energetic, just as enthusiastic the second night. Going to more than one concert in a row always gives me a chance to learn or absorb and appreciate more of the musical quality. And sometimes I'll see a little bit of stage work that makes me chuckle. G.C. made a certain gesture (he was laughing as he did it) that I didn't catch the first night, but did the second time, and I laughed too.
And this time it seemed Ron reluctant to leave the stage, finally just looking out at the audience, his eyes sparkling with love and blowing kisses to everyone. And he was dancing off every step of the way. As much as the Temptations were loved by the audience, the Tempts loved the audience.
After The Temptations had left the stage, Adrian Williams came to the front of the stage, slid down on his knees (Ouch, said my knees) and played a solo. I'd never seen that done before, but everyone was impressed with him.
It's strange how each time you notice something different. This time I was thinking how "together" the Temptations were, and yet each one was able to show his own unique personality. They were not clones althougy their unison was exact.
The show was not identical to the previous one. And they wore their black and white (with stripes) uniforms. That material does not show one wrinkle. They really looked good, and how their energy level stays so high, I do not know.
I just love to watch Terry dance. Talk about twinkling feet. And, yes, Otis was thinner.
To go back to the first night, the four HUGE men who sat in front of me seemed to shift ground somehow, and that first night they made a window for me to see through. I was in the first rows so it wasn't any big deal, but the second night there were a couple of couples, and the ladies sat in front of me.
To give an analogy showing that no matter how many concerts I see, no matter how many nights in a row I attend, I am thoroughly entertained by the music of The Temptations. Yesterday I picked up my DVD copy of AMADEUS. I was testing my VCR system and put that copy on for a minute or two. But the opening minute had Mozart music, and I was immediately awe-stricken. I would have sat and watched listened to every second of that movie, but the people who were in my house were trying to figure out how to set the VCR to record a program and immediately took out Mozart. But it's that kind of feeling. Great works never get stale. Beethoven never gets dull and time-worn. And The Temptations are the same way. There is more to discover each time I listen to them. BTW, Shakespeare is the same. I read a few lines and think, "Oh, my goodness, this guy can write."
Well, it's another "Oh, my goodness, these guys can sing and dance."
I guess I should add another thought I had dealing with how good they looked on stage. They've made some small little changes that emphasize the unison physically. Just a staging technique. But good.
