Just received my tickets to a Temptations/Four Tops concert and discovered it was titled "A Motown Christmas."
I think Melody has attended a number of the Temptations Christmas concerts.
I'm not sure whether both the Tempts and the Tops will include Christmas songs in their repetoire. I hope the Tempts will include the Gil Askew arranged "Silent Night."
Just read where they are releasing a Frank Sinatra holiday album which consists of holiday songs and just him singing and his son, Frank Jr., playing the piano. Apparently the "Silent Night" version is rather unusual. Perhaps someone will release the "Silent Night" recorded versions of different singers/groups. It would be interesting to hear all the various approaches.,

Hey (((Jane)))! Congratulations on getting your tickets for the Christmas concert! I guess even though the Tempts are leaving/have left Motown, they can't ecsape that name. The Temptations are associated with Motown.
Since Nov. 2000, I've attend five Temptations Christmas concerts and this Dec. will be my sixth one.
Is the the "Silent Night" You're referring to the one on the "Temptations Give Love At Christmas cd? If so, that is the one they sing. I know I remember (((Barrington))) saying something about the fireplace. TTYL!

I haven't heard the Tops do a Christmas show, but I've seen the Tempts and they did Silent Night. I think that's a staple. Would LOVE to hear any/every carol Theo was willing to do.
Jane, I have a collection of different renditions of "O Holy Night," which is probably my favorite carol of all time. My favorite is by Tevin Campbell ........... Tempts get second place.
Chains shall He break, For the slave is our brother, And in his name all oppression shall cease! Sweet hymns of joy in greatful chrods raise we! All within us, praise his Holy name!

The Temptations will always be MOTOWN. I remember hearing Smokey Robinson talking about Motown during a concert and saying there really wasn't any Motown per se any more. But in Smokey's heart and I am sure in the Temptations' hearts, Berry Gordy's Motown is always there. The heart of Motown is present. It's just that a business conglomerate is not and cannot be the creative force that was and is the Motown we think about.
The Tempts are performing at some special concert for the Motown Museum in Detroit this fall. When one tours HITSVILLE, the Temptations are the group that is talked about and demonstrated during the tour. So one cannot separate the Temptations from Motown.
I still think of the Tempts and Smokey as being Motown. But I realize that if we are thinking of creative forces and the future, it's time to go forward.
Yes, Gil Askew's "Silent Night" is on the GIVE LOVE AT CHRISTMAS CD. Askew was a classically trained musician, and that arrangement is a work of art. I am hoping the present Tempts sing it.
