Last Friday I saw the Review in BB Kings in NYC. I had a important lodge meeting,so I missed part of the first show. I know that they wore their purple suits...and they sang the tribute to the fallen Tempts.as I walked in...they also sang GOD BLESS AMERICA .The audience loved it. Got a chance to talk with the fellas between shows. Then the second show, where they came out singing Standing On The Top,Hello Young Lovers Rainy Night In Georgia Get Ready,Ain't Too Proud To Beg,Lady Soul Papa Was A Rolling Stone,Don't Look Back,Girl,Why You Wanna Make Me Blue...I Wish It Would Rain....David Sea did his thing....I told him to stand on the speaker,he did,and the women went crazy.Dennis sang Happy Birthday to a little girl who had turned nine...he and Mr. Sea went at each other vocally and then Dennis went into My Girl...sharing the lead with David,Just My Imagination,Stay, then back to My Girl....The crowd gave them a standing ovation and yelled for more! I guess they really liked the way the Review did the things they did...I thought that they weren't gonna leave until the group came back out. Dennis gave MOM a valentine's day rose...something that she thought she would never get to see again. I told the group that I would see them the next day in Baltimore.
I never heard of the place that they played before, but it was not hard to get to. I didn't know what to expect....I was waiting for my lady to get something to drink when I heard them announce...Russell Thompkins Jr,former lead singer of the Stylistics! I couldn't believe what I was hearing....we went to our seats which was three rows from the stage near the stage door. Russell sounded just as good as ever, singing all of the Stylistics hits. This was a treat. But I was in for more.....when they announced The Manhattans...featuring Gerald Alston & Blue Lovette.....I lost my mind!!! Gag me with a spoon! They did their thing...with all the Manhattans hits. We went backstage between the Manhattans set and the Review's set. I had met Russell last year at BB Kings....he asked me about Tim Bassett....we met him at the same time...Tim & I.....he said that he didn't hear from him in a while. We talked he too a picture with me & my lady....Gerald Alston used to live in my neighborhood...we used to keep our money in the same bank,at the same branch. When I reminded him where I was from...it was like old home week. And I got another shocker...Damon Harris was backstage, too. He said he's releasing a single in March..he took a picture with my lady & me...they will be at BB Kings this weekend. Lats,The review came on,singing Standing On The Top,Cloud Nine,I can't Get Next To You,Rainy Night in Georgia. David Sea did Rain, but he would not stand on top of the speaker. He sang to a woman and made her fall to her knees.....like she melted...never saw that, before. They had on Red suits with Blue designs. They did Papa Was A Rolling Stone,The Way You Do The Things You Do,Lady Soul I'll Be In Trouble,My Girl,Just My Imagination,Stay,Ain't Too Proud To Beg,My Baby,Don't Look Back.
I'd like to thank Davidseafan& My dear, sweet Ivory..who made it possible for me to see this show and sit in good seats. Thanks to them ,I got to see a show, with ORIGINAL leads...A thousand kisses to the two of you! It made a very special Valentine's Day for me,my lady said this was the best Valentine's Day that she's ever had. The Review,The Manhattans & Russell treated her like a QUEEN! And she has the pictures to prove it. Don't have too many stage pictures,,,the people that work the arena acted like they really didn't want pictures to be taken. But they couldn't stop people.
Another note...The Manhattans have a "LIVE" cd out, just like the Review..made around the same time as the Review made theirs.....and performed just like the cd. ;D
