Great performance from our great remaining 6 Funk Brothers
Pebo Bryson was in top form, and a real minor inconvenience was that Phoebe Snow couldnot make it and I repeat minor.
Carla Benson did the female leads and she was terrific, all the singers were great.
Edafan got to spend 20 minutes with the Funks and Pebo and the whole gang during the break. They are great warm human beings. I snuk on stage while theyended the MY Girl have everyone sing with them bit. I mentioned to the stage manager that I had emailed Bob Babbitt and he said to try and see him. So the fellow escorted me ro their huge main dressing area and I got to talk to them. At one point I wanted to leave to let them rest, But Jack Ashford said "Where are you going, Stay"
I got to talk music with Uriel Jones, I told them I had made an audio tape and I play it everyday in my car. I told them that there is one song where the second drummer comes in , and it is so precise that I think my turn signal is on. I have played it 1000 times or more and it fools me everytime. I got to thank Alan Slutsky for doing all of this. We love these guys, and to think I have been fortunate to talk to them about music twice now. Uriel and I swapped a couple of music things, like I ran a big band and our drummer could not play the transition from slow to fast in MacArthur Park. Uriel said that it was a tough tune to play on drum.
Please go to see these guys when they play in your area. I brought my wife, my best friend - a very quiet "Boston Braves" fan who still mournes the fact that they moved to MIlwaukee in the 1950's and his wife, and we all had a great time.
