Nish...then there must be some truth to the rumors of the relationship Dennis had with Aretha. According to the story after they broke up, they were invited to a party at her house and she asked him to sing A Song For You and he told her no. She thought he was singing that song for her and he said he'd never sing it around her again. I cannot imagine Dennis not singing that song in concert unless he only sang 1 or 2 songs. He is known for A Song For You as much as Pappa. So I have to laugh at the fact he didn't sing it. ;D

Sukkafu, actually, a few years back, I do think the Pirates charged two bucks to fill the stands because the attendance was so paltry. So, unfortunately, your joke is close to the truth. Can you say, "WISHING BARRY BONDS STILL PLAYED FOR US?"
ABA21 - I really don't know, but I think I remember reading that somewhere, not sure where (about the party or something).
And Earthangel - it's good to see chicks as young as you and dbaby dig the Temptations. It's the cat's meow to see that. Now, let me introduce you to a group called the Superbs...

neeshababay, it's cool to see you carve out a niche in soulville as you educate in the virginia area.
pirates miss the killer bees-bonds and bonilla and they miss good management they had back when you was a chillun.
jason kendall of the pirates is from san diego, so is brian giles.

Ya'll got that from Tony Turner's book. A lot of times I've seen Dennis and he didn't sing A Song For You,and I told him about it. I remember once I told Eddie to sing Get Ready at one of HIS shows,he was asking the crowd what they wanted to hear. Why did he do that I called out two songs Girl Of My Dreams and This Used To Be The Home Of Johnnie Mae and he did it acapella to thunderous round of appaluse! He went on with his show and I thought he was gonna leave without singing Get Ready, and said to him,Man,you gotta sing Get Ready. After the show I told him never do a show and don't sing Get Ready. He listened to me!

Mike - so I got that from Tony Turner's book? Okay, I don't believe it then! LOL!
And that's some sage advice you gave Eddie, there!

I knew I heard it somewhere. Really didn't know he did shows and did not sing that song. Well I'm surprised. ;D

Nish, that's not fair because it stuck in your mind and if I didn't remind you that Tony's book had that in there, you would believe it. Don't get me wrong,I don't blame you for not believing it. Im not saying that his book was 100% wrong,or right. Some things were true, some were not. Did you read Aretha's book? She talks about their relationship . (Daydreaming?)

No Sukka,Eddie knew that I was coming from the heart. I didn't want anything from him but to see him do well and I made sure he knew that. You should see some of the people who try to come and some who do get backstage. Sometimes it would turn my stomach and I would get ready to leave, he would say,"sit back and watch what's happening." Sometimes the women would go from him to Dennis, they would give me a look that told me that this female is looking for a free ride or something. When this would happen,I couldn't look at Dennis, because I would start laughing. He has a way of telling a joke without saying a word, just the look on his face. Eddie was different I could look in his direction. I could tell what he was thinking,I just prayed that he would not say something to start me to laugh. You must realize that for some people that was a first time experence and I did not want to spoil it for them.No one spoiled it for me. Sometimes I would talk to the women and we would walk out of the waiting area. I set a pick for them,ya know pick and roll.

mike, i imagine the hangers on and the groupies get old pretty quick. it must be tough sometimes - you WANT fans so you can have an audience and make money on sales of your music, and you NEED fans. but you don't want everyone digging into your flesh and giving you no space!you don't want to share everything with your fans ! you need to have some privacy.
it definitely is a delicate balance-fame comes with a price and responsibility.

Earthangel, that isn't nary a bit too personal. I'm in Hampton Roads. It's okay... but I miss the Steel City!
Mike - you are right, I should give the TT a chance. I haven't read Aretha's book. With all the cases I have to read, won't be touching that thing at least until winter break!
And I can only imagine all the backstage Annie's throwing themselves at Dennis and Eddie's feet. My goodness.

Throwing themselves at anybody who looks like somebody's feet. Sometimes it's hilarious. I feel you on that one Mike. Melvin used to tell me to walk with him like I was his bodygaurd or something and get to the back elevator and go on upstairs. After he wound down from the show though he was funny to be around and would always go to the lounge.

Probably more, suk. I never saw anyone take so much medication everyday just to perform. I would have quit. No I wouldn't. I would have done just what he did. He could barely walk at the end suk. He stopped doing the steps all together. Just stood at the end and sang. He had gained a lot of bloated weight and was struggling to breathe out there. It was rough.
