Hi all, I'd love to "modify" some Temps stuff to be accapella - is there a computer program out there that you could use to remix songs, take down the volume of the band and take the vocals volume up higher? Or is it a case of needing the original studio master tapes to isolate vocals from accompaniment?  Maybe if thats the case we need a petition to Motown to do an accapella Temps album using the original recordings!? |

This sounds like a question for Ed but I haven't found one anyway. Soundforge will do the opposite, take out the lead vocal and leave you with the background and accompaniement, but not the other way around. Sucks.  |

Well at least that means that it is, in theory, possible to do without having the master tapes...

This isn't something you can do without the original multitracks. You can remove vocals sometimes but you can't remove instruments in most cases. The only exception are when you're dealing with songs where the instruments are on one speaker and the vocals are on the other but that kind of horrible separation is pretty rare.

Yeah what Ed said ... I was gonna offer Nero ... which is a burning rom ... but comes with a wave editor ... so you can modify songs to fit your needs ... but like ed said ... Unless there is the seperation of left/right speaker (EX: I WISH IT WOULD RAIN) making a song acapella isn't easy ;D

Try Adobe audition 2.0 or 3.0,it works,you can increase the vocal level while decreasing the volume of the instruments.It has an acapella feature.You must take the temptations songs from the albums though or from the 20th century masters cd,you cant edit remastered songs,so if you're using the songs off of the emperors of soul boxset it will no work I had the same question you had back in 2005 |

The Emperors of Soul boxset's songs 1959 - 1971 are in mono (with a couple exceptions). You really can't do much with mono from what I've found.

Like I just said, the songs from the "emperors of soul" boxset, will not work. Again those songs on the boxset have been remastered, so they cant be edited without destroying and distorting the sound drastically. Now, the songs from the album are in stereo and can be edited. I know this because I have made acapellas using songs directly from the album itself. The year is irrelevant, as long as the songs are in stereo and haven't been remastered, they can be edited into an acapella |
