I love dell...and they deliver . Sometimes free! Always fast. Seriously, get the fastest processor, biggest hard drive, most RAM that you can afford, and don't forget the CD-RW. (minimum). Read up on comparisons of various processors, more expensive isn't always better. Comparison shop, its easy online. Check for PC Magazine reviews, so you know what to look for and what to watch out for.

If you must get a Windows machine, I agree with Kalisa. It's all about Dell. If, however, you want a really good computer with great speed that utilizes a really stable operating system, it's all about Mac.

I don't mind the old 'toshes ... But Windows ... has so much more stuff! (THIS MEANS GAMES LOL) ... If you ask my friend Elijah ... He would say get a gateway ... Install a LINUX OS to it ... I myself say ... Dell Pentium 4 ... get 120 gig harddrive if (At least 40 ) CD-RW drive (DVD compatible is always nice) ... If you don't mind my asking what is your price range? Dell can usally do a great machine for under $600 ;D

Goold Ole Moms.. just bought me a new one for my Bday.. its a Dell.. 4600.. and i clicked on 1 upgrade to just about everything.. also added the floopy drive.. because I guess its not standard issue now adays,, and I still need my floppies, it has cd bruner.. and DVD stuff.. also.. and this is the part I love.. I got Microsoft Plus Digital Media, really cool.. and of course ordered sound blaster, and a few other things.. a few years ago.. I did want a mac.. cuz I was going to try to get into video editing.. and at the time Mac was the one for that.. Thanks for any advice. I taught myself the computer in 2000 because I was tired of letting first graders show me how to use one at school! I am from the IBM school of typewriters age. ...all, all I need.... I pretty much taught myself.. I started out just doing Word .. at work.. and I thought since these kids are learning it in school I better catch up.. SO I searched online at google.com typed in "free online training" or "Free online education" and Free online classes" that at one point everyone at work was asking how I know so much stuff.. its all out there there are THOUSANDS on free online training, for EVERYTHING!! even underwater basketweaving!!! I did do a little article one time on "my review" of some free online classes, out of the MILLIONS I came across.. shoot.. you can learn how to fix a VCR online. you can learn just about anything free online..including how to type!. I might be pretty good with alot of the MS programs.. but ask me what wire goes where.. and Im stumpped.. ask me about operating systems.. im stumped too.. but I sure know a bunch of programs on MS software and a few others. If I can find my review on some of the courses, I'll PDF it and send it to ya, It also has a list about 3 pages long on different sites ( some on the list have changed from free to paying a fee, I remember crossing those off, along with if I thought it was good or not.. that was a bout 5 yrs or so ago... so Im not real sure where the list is.. but it was a MINOR list compared all the free training out there. but give it a shot.. go to google.com.. and in "quotes" type in Free online classes" or any of the 3 I mentioned. youll come up with MILLIONS.. ya just have to weed thru them.. some are boring just reading kind and some are very friendly.. it will even move your cursor to show you where to click. ( can you tell it was a big interest for me for a while?)

Oh, I remember the good ol' IBM Actionwriter. That's the typewriter I first learned to type on and I loved it madly. My father actually still uses a manual typewriter because, as a piano player, his fingers are so strong that he kills typewriter keys...LOL! Ah, memories... Ed
