It's not Otis Williams or Otis Redding. It wasn't Eddie Holland. But honestly, I think State mistyped because it WAS Eddie........Eddie Kendrick. ;D
I got that quote from Otis' autobiography and Eddie was speaking TO Otis......so everybody was sort of close.

“I’m the baby of 12 kids, and my mom and pop, they were all in church, quite naturally I grew up in church. I did Sunday School, from Sunday School to young people choir to adult choir. And then by that time I left. I left when I was a young guy. From then on it was history. From gospel to funk.”

Really? Well don't I look stupid. I must be getting that confused with another quote of O talking about how he likes to listen to women talk, or something. Anyway, my guess on the next one is Blu.

KALISA2 - I don't know if 'Try A Little Tenderness' was a big hit for someone other than Otis Redding but I know Dennis Edwards cut that on his 'Coolin' Out ' LP. Curet30 - mypages.netopia.com/channels

Jonel it was Eddie Holland that Otis was talking about, he was talking about the lyrics to "All I Need" which was written in part by Eddie Holland, and Otis goes on to say how different Eddie's words were so one day he spoke to Eddie Holland about this and that is where your quote comes from, not Eddie Kendricks. ;D

you tell her, state! maybe eddie kendricks went through the holland tunnel so we're close, if i use jonel's graceful way of saying we're all putzes. if this cat grew up in church , then when his diaper had to be changed did everyone say ''pew''?LOL! ;D ;D

Did I confuse everyone too much??? Thank goodness I have State to keep me straight.
This quote was from an interview with Ray Davis:
“I’m the baby of 12 kids, and my mom and pop, they were all in church, quite naturally I grew up in church. I did Sunday School, from Sunday School to young people choir to adult choir. And then by that time I left. I left when I was a young guy. From then on it was history. From gospel to funk.”
Hey Ivory.....at least you got the "voice" correct.....it was a BASS!

It was Ray Davis. The clue was the word "funk".

"...when you get Aretha you get the Queen's staff and guards....She had her security guards, her hair guy, her makeup guy, her secretary, her assistant, her cook, her this and that, all wanting something from her, and I just got tired of living with all those people constantly in the house."
