This is a great song. I was playing it in my car and it's a song that will never go out of style. The Lyric's are timeless because they relate to a lot of young people today. The Producer norman Whitfield was at his best in 1968 when this LP came out. It was unique then and revelent today. The musicians were on the money especially the guitars. Eddie was BADD when he sang "no no....na na no no" and the harmony was all that.....eddie said, "I want my Mama, I want my Mama" and then they jammed. This was the first time the group experiment with long versions and it worked. I truly miss those type of songs from the group...anyway...the Doctor was just chillin Doc T

You point out the two parts of that song that I have always loved and thought made the song unusual. I really could not explain why I like that "no, no..." and find it so fascinating, eagerly anticipating it each time I listen to the song. And the "Mama" bit is heart-breaking and touching, thus emphasizing the purpose of the song. The Temptations have so many songs where each one contributes something unique, proving again "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" but also stating that each part is important. I think that is the reason the Tempts are great.

This is one of my favorites. I remember my freshman year at Howard University, you could hear people walking around campus singing "doom doom do do do do do doom, ba do ba doom doom". It was also played at every party.

I love Eddie's "sounds" --whatever they are called. What a delightful note to add. The first time I ever heard that song sung, I wondered how Eddie ever thought of the little frills he added to the song. And ever since that time, I always eagerly anticipate the section of the song where they appear. And then to see it performed is to see additional movements to go with those little sounds.

Hello, All. I am a new member here and I must say that it is soooo nice to find other "kindred spirits" here that appreciate the Temps! This song, "Run Away Child" is classic in that everything from the arrangement, grooming and polishing to the "perfect harmony" makes you a bit nostalgic....when artists "took their time" in perfecting their craft. Just my opinion. Other favs of mine included...Masterpiece...Ball of Confusion... Glasshouse. Do the songs get any better? Of course they do! Right on down to my then older sisters all teaching me how to do the "cha cha" from the song, "Don't look back." They had it DOWN! Now I have to 'fess up. My buds and I all got hairbrushes, etc. to use as microphones and of course we THOUGHT that we sang as well as the Supremes and I was always Cindy Birdsong...lol! Someday.....lol! Take care all!

Welcome, fallinryne! You'll really like it here! I thought I was the only one who used to "play" Supremes. Actually, I sort of imagine myself as a Supreme. I'm very shy and quiet....but I have an alter-ego that most people don't know about. I know it's dorky, but...... ;D In my mind, I'm always Mary for some reason. Wait a minute....yeah I do know. I just don't wanna tell anyone!
