The only thing known about the tracks of the bonus disc is that after the groups appearance this morning HSN has now put up a photo of the set on their website which you can zoom in on and upon doing so the "Back to Front" CD has a New Door Label while the "Bonus Disc" CD has a Motown label and lists Ball of Confusion as a rare alternate track.

Why don't people check their facts? However, it could be an alternate "Ball of Confusion." I have many alternate takes on hits by famous singers. Someone brings it out of the vaults and adds it to a current album to help sell it.

The bonus disc isn't the new temptations singing these classics, it is the same songs that all of us already have in our collection, except for the alternate of Ball of Confusion, you don't have to purcahse the Back to Front cd with the bonus disc, because if you own any Temptation cd with there greatest hits then you have 5 of the 6 songs on the bonus disc, that's a nice trick by them, making people think that the bonus disc is really something new.

I don't think they were tricking anyone. Everyone knows those songs are sung by the Classic Tempts. I think it was a bonus disk to give to people who may not have any Temptations records in their collections. Perhaps they heard and saw the Tempts for the first time on HSN. After all, a lot of people who have never heard of, or seen the Temptations were probably watching. For them this would be an opportunity to hear what made the Tempts famous world-wide.

True, but on Otis's website this is his exact words "We also took the time to revisit and record some of our Temp favorites -- "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me), "Get Ready", "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," and "Treat Her Like A Lady." That sounds like the new line-up will be singing these songs. If you're releasing songs that are already out there why would you say you're going to revisit and record, that doesn't make any sense to say that.

Has anyone heard the bonus CD? This will clear up a lot of the confusion. Nearly all the Temptations's C5 songs are the standard and should not or possibly can not be recorded. In fact, the only song that was a remake that I actually do like is Luther Vandross doing "Since I lost my baby" and slowing it down

I guess I'll have to order it from HSN and get the Bonus Disk. I got my Back to Front copy elsewhere.
I had not checked out Otis' website for comments on the bonus disk, which I thought was only available on HSN.
I remember the discussion on whether the voices in the mini-series on TV were the Classic Tempts or the singers. We discovered from Terron Brooks and Christian that they sang all their lead songs themselves, except Terron said that it was Eddie Kendricks himself on the Paradise song. D.B. Woodside also sang his parts, although Terron said, "He layered his vocals." D.B. had sung in the choir in school, and probably his dramatic training at Yale had included musical training. But Leon did not sing David Ruffin's songs, although he wanted to.
I guess they felt Leon's voice would be distinctive and people would think "Leon", not David. But Terron and Christian did a good job. Most people were convinced they were the original Tempt voices.
The new line-up already sings those songs Smooth mentioned in their concerts, and they do them in the classic style.
Why would it be a benefit to the Temptations to offer the same songs sung in the classic style on a Bonus Disk? The songs they are singing on Back to Front are offering songs of the past done by the Temptations in a Temptations style. And singers do that all of the time.
I can see two reasons: 1. introduce the Temptations to people who may never have heard of them, or 2. do what they are doing to the other songs on Back to Front and sing the classic Temptations songs in a contemporary Temptation style.
A few years ago the Tempts re-recorded a song led by Paul Williams and did it in a more contemporary style. The original had a very early primitive Motown sound. Sounded like Dixieland jazz compared to swing or to contemporary jazz. Otis had really liked the earlier song and had been surprised that it was never a BIG hit. So they redid it with a much fuller sound, but people hated changing the original song. It was sort of a no-win situation.
Now, my musings turn to whether the present-day Tempts give those songs on the Bonus Disk the sound of the past by using the voices of the past or use the present Tempts with the sounds of the present.
My question is: If you were in charge of the Tempts putting out such a Bonus Disk, which would you do, put the classic Tempts on it to introduce the world-wide famous Temptations to a new public, or show people that the present Tempts are as good as the past Tempts, even though musical styles may have changed. In other words, appeal to the present by singing a good song in a present style.
Which way would you consider best for a Bonus Disk?

I have the bonus disc, that's why i replied to this topic, there isn't any confusion, it is the c5 and the line-up with Dennis that sings those songs, not the new Tempts. My reply had nothing to do with what's best for the bonus disc, that is not my concern,it just sounded like the newer Tempts were going to be singing those songs according to the website. Whether you're introducing them to new fans, or showing that the present day Tempts can sing those songs, well,I think they both sound like good ideas, what they did was put the original recordings except for Ball Of Confusion, which is an alternate version on the bonus disc, that is a great idea, the way it was phrased on his website would lead you to believe that it was the newer Tempts. I understand what they did with the bonus disc, again I'm not knocking there decision to introduce newer fans to the Temptations by putting the original recordings, i just don't appreciate the false advertising on the website, but it's all good, I'm not mad about it, I just got another Tempts cd that has classics on it, at the end of the day, it's all good, I just hope next time what's advertised is what's on the cd and not different from what's been advertised on your website.
