The Temptations - "Reflections" - (New Door)

In the 45 years since the legendary R&B group first formed, the Temptations have released more than 40 albums. That's not counting the numerous greatest hits collections, anthologies and box sets that are also floating around out there. Although only one original member, Otis Williams, is still around to sing, the group nonetheless continues to entertain audiences all over the world. The Temptations have stayed busy over the years, and so the group can be forgiven for coasting a bit when it comes to its new CD, "Reflections."

According to the members of the Temptations, the songs covered on "Reflections" represent a selection of the Motown catalog that the group has always wanted to record, but never has. The song selections are, as expected, impressive.

"How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," and "Ooo Baby Baby" are just a few examples of the kind of music the group covers. But while there is nothing wrong with the vocal abilities of the current Temptations lineup, some of the musical arrangements come off as cheap. It isn't on every track, so it ultimately doesn't do too much to dampen the proceedings. If you're a Temptations fan and you want to hear the group cover some great old R&B hits with varying degrees of success, then by all means have at it.

The truth is that there have been better recordings by the Temptations, even in the group's current incarnation. (C+)

Hats off to Otis Williams. He's great and he is keeping the Heart and Soul of The Temptations alive just as Dennis Edwards Review does. I'm always supportive in buying and enjoy anything either group performs and produces. So when Otis made the Reflections CD and shared it with the world, I'm so glad to
hear something new with their fantastic voices singing new songs that they always wanted to sing . So I'll give an A+ for a worthy outstanding effort to The Temptations!!!!

I agree with the article Reflections just doesn't do 'It' for me. I listened to it once and jumed back on Mellow mood...

Well, I think you have to just have to be honest in looking at the Temptations right NOW. They are an old group still trying to keep going. That comendable in itself and they do put on a good concert. The recording aspect is different, the problem is that the current group of Temptations are lacking a strong lead singer. GC Cameron is just an average singer. He can't touch David, Dennis, Ali or Theo. Terry does good leads but even he can't carry the Temptations. The sad thing is they have an excellent bass singer and they don't even use him the way they should.

"REFLECTIONS" is the best CD they have done since "Phoenix Rising"
Awesome and Earesistable were just average
and "Legacy" wasn't good at all

The greatest of the Temptations is long gone, all we have left is memories. That's what I play the most when I listen to the Temptations....THE OLD STUFF

THE VOICES ARE GONES AND OTIS IS JUST THE LAST ONE.
DENNIS' DOESN'T SOUND LIKE HE DID IN THE PAST....ALL HE CAN DO IS SING THE "TEMPTATIONS REVIEW"

THOSE OLD SONGS WILL NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE, BECAUSE THE PEOPLE REMEMBER THOSE SONGS.......BUT THE PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY FORGOTTENED A LOT OF THE NEW CD'S

I think that is just your opion that G.C. OR Terry are not that great. I think both of them are truely great singers. G.C. did'nt just come from under a rock somewhere. He's been with Motown for over fourty years and I do believe that Otis made a very wise choice picking G.C. to be the lead singer of the Temptations. Doc you made comments in the past that he was'nt that good with the Spinners as well. Wrong again the only hit record for the Spinners was when G.C. sang IT'S A SHAME. One of the most beloved songs he did as well was IT'S SO HARD TO SAY GOODBYE TO YESTERDAY and BOYZ TO MEN remade it and made it a hit all over again. So please give this man some credit for the contributions he's made with two of the most loved groups THE TEMPTATIONS and The Spinners. P.S. and if your reading the reviews on Reflections the only criticism was on the part of production non use of a real instruments making the few songs sound cheaply made, and that G.C. was one of the most underrated soul singer of all time and praised him on CAN I GET A WITTNESS !!!! Icould'nt agree more.
