DON'T RESIST TEMPTATIONS RELEASE Mary Awosika, Herald Tribune
The Temptations, "Reflections" (New Door)
The Temptations take you on a journey to the heyday of Motown in the '60s on "Reflections."
New members Joe Herndon, G.C. Cameron, Terry Weeks and Ron Tyson join the last surviving original member, Otis Williams, to sing classic songs that became hit singles for artists such as Marvin Gaye, The Isley Brothers and The Supremes (but strangely, not by The Temptations).
With lead vocals shared between Cameron, Tyson and Weeks, the new generation of the group puts some spunk into "Reflections," originally recorded by The Supremes. The group brings fullness to "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," originally a passionate duet between Tammi Terrell and Marvin Gaye, and smooth out "I Hear a Symphony," another Supremes hit.
Tyson is able to capture that tender Smokey Robinson vibrato on the 1965 Top 20 hit, "Ooo Baby Baby," by Robinson and The Miracles.
No matter how many years have passed since Motown favorites were first released, "Reflections" has you itching to find the originals of those oldies but goodies.
