A few words with the Temptations

Otis Williams, 44, is the 25-year-old Motown vocal group's baritone singer.
* ON "A FINE MESS": The Temptations performed the title song for the new Blake Edwards movie, "A Fine Mess," which is also included on their new "To Be Continued" album. "It was really a somebody-knowing-somebody-else kind of thing. Our manager told us there was a chance to do a theme for a new movie, and we were already recording our 'Touch Me' album at the time. So after we performed at the (Universal Amphitheater), we went in and recorded it."
* ON LONGEVITY: Williams said the Temptations are still around after 25 years because they "change with the times and stay current. That's what's helped us over the years, being able to adapt to whatever comes along at the time. It's more of a challenge now than it was in the early days of recording. When we go into the studio now to record, we're always asking, 'What's this?' and 'What's that?' "
* ON SHOWTIME: The Temptations, along with the Four Tops, recently filmed the first program of the "Motown on Showtime" cable TV series, which debuts Aug. 24 with special guests Aretha Franklin and Eddie Kendricks. "It's just reminiscing of what the Temps and Motown are about, remembering those early days. We went down to the Roostertail, to the Fox Theatre, to Hitsville. It brought back a lot of early memories."
* ON THE FUTURE: The Temps have two major projects planned for next year. The first will be a book, which will be started -- with a ghostwriter -- in a few weeks. "We're going to say what was happening. It's not going to be slanderous or knocking people, but it will be very interesting because we've had some scenes in our time. It will be chocked full of goodies." The group will also start their own film "based on the Temps' life story. Our manager is currently setting it up with producers, and there's a good chance Billy Dee Williams will be in it with us."
