Oct. 7: Musical Soul of the 1960s and 1970s
Mondays, Oct. 7-Dec. 2, 7-10 p.m., UC Berkeley campus, Berkeley; fee: $225. Remember Confunkshun, Sister Sledge and the Fat Back Band? The head of the Bay Area R&B Society leads participants on a stroll through the music of an activist generation stirred by the Vietnam War and social movements. The course covers not only the soul icons like James Brown, Aretha Franklin and the Temptations, but the funk, the gospel, the sister groups and the one-hit wonders. Artists, authors and radio personalities make guest appearances.
