Motown will release Funk Brothers album
By Susan Whitall / The Detroit News
Three record companies were in the running to release the soundtrack album to the Funk Brothers movie, "Standing in the Shadows of Motown," and the winner is ... Motown. It's a full circle for the Funk Brothers, who were Motown employees when they played on virtually every Motown release in the '60s. Motown is now Los Angeles-based and a division of Universal, but still has an enormous vault in New Jersey filled with tapes of released and unreleased material. That was the deciding factor in picking Motown, producers say, because along with the songs from the movie, recorded in the winter of 2000 at the Royal Oak Theatre, the soundtrack album will also feature a few vintage Funk Brothers cuts. The soundtrack will be released Sept. 24 on Hip-O/Motown, and the Detroit premiere of the film, distributed in the United States by Artisan Entertainment, is set for Nov. 15.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this movie now. But, I don't know, but wouldn't you think that the Motown label would be shoe in? I'm glad they got the contract. It just wouldn't be right for the Funk Brothers to be on an unfamiliar or newer record label.

Yeah, if there was any way to make Jonel the "Chief Librarian and Press Secretary" I'd do it. ............ Kalisa would be Seargent at Arms: Temptations Review Wing, Sukka would be head of the hospitality comittee ......... etc., etc.,
