they would have the shiniest patent leather shoes and the sparkling rings and chains on their necks. smiles would be bright and infectious, and the steps would be perfect and in sync, like the class act they're known for. then they would bring up a lovely fan from the audience to dance and sing with them and it would be ivory! and she would faint from the disbelief! and terry would have to kiss her awake! then all the ladies would come up to take a crack at my girl, and get their free t shirts. then ivory would do a bass off with harry and the crowd would go wild! would that be a video! ;D

Ah, yes, the steps have to be perfectly in sync. I had to chuckle at the patent leather shoes. When Otis was very young and dreamed of being a singer on the stage, he also dreamed o black patent leather SHINY shoes.
I haven't seen many videos, but I do think Michael Jackson's Billie Jean was a classic. Or am I thinking of another one?
Remember the Ed Sullivan "MY Girl" in the mini-series. I loved the hands clapping. Such a simple gesture but so impressive.
Are the videos classier when the dance steps are used and no literal interpretation.

i think so. the hand claps added to the whole upbeat smoothness of the performance.

awwwww...but then we wouldn't have that adorable "snowball rolling down the snowcovered hill" move, or some of the other really darling moves.
but classier? yes definitely.

No, Ivory would run and hide in sheer terror!!!! .......... And if Terry tried to kiss her, she'd have to run and hide again from Terry's wife! ........... but you're right about Harry and me and the bass-off! I'd bring my triangle!!! He ain't got no triangle skillz!

I just love the hand claps.
But I think the "snowball" adds to that imagery for that song. A hand clap wouldn't do it.
I wonder what the driving force is behind designing dance steps for new songs. Otis referred to the "literal" interpretation of the 1960's.
Whatever it is, I love hand claps. Is hand claps a compound word or not. I could get the dictionary, but I'm lazy. I can't find the spelling check. However, today they are compounding a great many more words, so maybe it is.

ok janebse your sixties man is here. the manhattens became famous for doing a song that the title now escapes me cause i'm old with black tuxcedos and white gloves. they would turn all the lights out and all you would see is the gloves. it was incredible to see. When Cholly took over putting those steps together the driving force was , is and alwys will be sex. combining those moves with a subtle sexual conotation is what they have tried to do with their choreography front jump street.
and when you say blow, you mean sing, really sing, blow your mind sing, warble and all that. As in me and my group was on the corner blowing the temps song last night. Take 6 can really blow as can Boyz II Men and The best blowing was done by the Tall, Talented Temptin', Temptations.
