PBS MY MUSIC......FUNKY SOUL SUPERSTARS
Scheduled for its March 2005 pledge drive PBS Presents "My Music...Funky Soul Superstars" The tapings which took place at Dover Downs Slots Dec. 6 and 7 will showcase R&B artists exclusively.
Al Wilson and Patti LaBelle highlight an all-star lineup that will also include Dennis Edwards' Temptations Review, Candi Staton, Cuba Gooding and The Main Ingredient, The Whispers, Evelyn Champagne King, Rufus, Russell Thompkins Jr. and The New Stylistics, The Moments, The Ohio Players, Thelma Houston, Undisputed Truth, Wilbert Hart and The New Delphonics plus many more Soul Legends.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime gathering of musical legends," PBS producer TJ Lubinsky said. "Dover Downs Slots is the perfect home for our special."
In an effort to reach out to its viewing audiences, PBS has adopted a more regional philosophy. Bringing the fundraiser to Dover Down Slots from its traditional home, Pittsburgh, is part of this strategy.
"This was a terrific opportunity for Dover Downs Slots to showcase to the Rollins Center and help raise money for important, educational programming," said Ed Sutor, chief operating officer for Dover Downs Slots. "Public television is an American institution."
