Walk Of Fame honoring Smokey Robinson
BET is going to honor Smokey Robinson with its 10th annual Walk of Fame induction. A special TV show is shooted today in at The Grand Hyatt Hotel and to be broadcasted on Oct. 28 on BET 9 p.m. (ET) in The States.
Today's hottest artists pay tribute to the Soul Icon Smokey Robinson at the 10th Anniversary "Walk of Fame" celebration feat. Stevie Wonder, Usher, Gladys Knight, India.Arie, Joss Stone, Gerald Levert, Brian McKnight.
Stevie Wonder will do a version Smokey Robinson's hit "Tears of a Clown," Joss Stone will sing "More Love" and others will harmonize tunes that have made Robinson an R&B and Soul staple.
Smokey Robinson (64 y.o.) has established himself as one of the premier prototypes of a musician/songwriter/entrepreneur. His biggest songs were blockbusters like "Tracks of My Tears," "Ooh Baby Baby," "Cruisin,'" "Quiet Storm," "Just To See Her" and other notables. As the leader of the Miracles, Smokey Robinson crafted songs for his own group but also for Motown acts like Mary Wells and the Temptations.
In addition to his musical legacy, Smokey Robinson is also one of the orginal artist/executives. Besides being a producer and songwriter, he also served as Vice President of Motown in the 70's.
These days, all facets of the Smokey Robinson legacy thrive. Currently, he has a line of frozen gumbo dinners under the banner of "Smokey Robinson Foods" on the market. He also released another album in April of 2004 called "Food for the Spirit," his first Gospel album (on Liquid 8).
All "Walk Of Fame" proceeds will benefit the BET Foundation and the United Negro College Fund.
