With all due respect, Smokey may have written it but that song will always belong to David Ruffin. He has the definitive lead on it and he put his indelible stamp on it...  Having said that, I absolutely see what you're saying. Songwriters were very often given short shrift back then. Now, they get what they're worth, by and large, but back then, well... Ed |
