Seeing how sad Rick's kids look makes this especially heartbreaking.... I have been listening to Rick a lot today. Urban Rapsdy, West Coast Thang, Oh What A Night FOr LOve, Fire & Desire, Good Ole Days, Moon Child, You & I and of course Mary Jane I hope his children can benefir from the re-release of some of his work.

Heh heh, those are some good songs there Aba. I'm a big fan of "Moonchild"--one of Rick's best no doubt. And yeah those kids will benefit from Rick's work. I'd certainly like to see "Throwin' Down", "Coldblooded" and "Glow" re-issued.

I have all his stuff and I was Bustin' out on the Funk all weekend!

I've been playing his Anthology a lot. The first one, that's probably my favorite greatest hits set.

Good article,Jonel as always. I noticed that it 's a common theme that these entertainers don't know how much the public cares for them. I know David Ruffin didn't know. We should let them smell the roses while they can. I agree. They only "seem" to get "it" while they are on stage. Maybe if they can keep that feeling with them when they get off stage, we could keep them around longer.

I think this may actually be a misprint. Richard told me that Ali sang at the funeral, not Otis.

Well that would make a LOT more sense ........... 'cause I've been squinting really hard trying to imagine him up there singing a solo and I'm just not seeing it.

I was going to say the same thing, Ivory...makes a lot more sense to me too. I WAS thinking "Well, ok, he was Melvin's nephew, so maybe O made the supreme sacrifice in this instance...but nah, he'd bring the whole group up for a song..." Ali just makes more sense to me. I wonder if anybody has any footage like they did of Ruffin's funeral?

I spoke with Otis in his dressing room before they went on stage for the Universal show on the 21st and asked him about singing at Rick's funeral and he said that they were in a plane at the time and that he thought it was Ali who was the one who sang at the funeral.
