I just realized I was thinking of the wrong song. Actually, this one isn't AS bad. I edited a little clip together of him saying "it's time to wake up baaaaaaby" and made it my "alarm clock" a few years ago.
I had it confused with "Do it Nice and Easy" or whatever it was.
So it's an ok song. While Blu is my favorite Tempt, I prefer his background vocals. The only song of his where he sang lead was "Ol Man." And "Someday at Christmas" if we can count that.
DR, I took the liberty of uploading a clip of the song to your post so everyone could hear it.

No sir. I'm a big Melvin fan, that goes without saying but I never could stand this song. Oddly enough, "I Could Never Stop Loving You" is one of my favorites and it's a more varied and melodic lead IMO...

I've been madly in love with that song from the moment I first heard it some months back. The overall production is just incredible and Melvin's lead is quite good. Ed

Yeah, Baker, Harris and Young were one of the few producers who didn't make Melvin's lead sound cartoonish. My copy of "Hear To Tempt You" well played, great harmony and a great Philly production--probably one of the last in the style...

Ok Ivory, I don't know if you are familiar with Blu's song on the "Wish it would Rain" album its called "I Truly Truly Believe" I think its his absolute best outside of "Ole an River". Check it out

Nope, don't like it either. The background vocals are awful.

What??...I agree that the background vocals are not that good , but the lead, I think, is quite good....I think that this is where we will agree to disagree.... Music is still very personal, one person's "love" is another person's "dislike"

This song gives Melvin a chance to stretch and show his range and control more than any other of his songs. He is strong when he needs to be and soft and tender at just the right moments. This song also shows that he could not only sing the lowest bass notes but also reach up and hit those high baritone notes that were high for his range . This just proves the point that Blue was the greatest bass to ever sing into a microphone.

I agree with you but they already HAD a baritone so why the need to go yanking the bottom out of the harmony just to show that they had two dudes who could sing baritone.

I agree with you but they already HAD a baritone so why the need to go yanking the bottom out of the harmony just to show that they had two dudes who could sing baritone. Ivory, most singers that i know, including myself pride themselves in not only being able to sing parts they are known for but in other keys as well, though the public usually wants to hear what they became famous for. Whenever i hear Eddie leading, i'm almost always trying to hear Otis hit those high background notes. I remember a friend said to me once that, Eddie sung his part so good, that Otis had no choice but to sing his part good. I get a stone kick out of hearing Melvin "rise" to the occasion. David singing high second tenor (case in point, HOF with Ruff singing a high "Don't look Back" background vocal) or "You'll Lose A Precious Love", hitting first and second tenor all the way. That's what makes the Temptations so unique, their amazing, outstanding versatility. Paul, Melvin, Eddie, Otis and David I guess it's 'kinda' like a basketball center bringing the ball full court down the floor, spinning, taking the ball behind his back, through his legs, going through the middle and 'Slammin' that Suckuh!!! Though you don't want to see him do this all the time, it's exciting to see him do something out of the norm every now and again. At the same time i understand your argument. It bothers me when an entertainer goes too far from what the public wants to prove something. Ron Tyson knows that he is going to have some "friendly" comp. from GC. All you have to do is listen to "It's Ashame" to hear that "Falsetto" he was hitting. Also, Ron isn't doing all the "Roaming Tenor" (as Eddie liked to call himself) verses on Legacy. GC is singing some of those 'Way' 'Way' 'Way' on the top parts as well. -Nate "Boomer"
