That is a nice song. I don't know why the Temptations aren't played as much as the Isley Brothers or O'jays either. I would go so far as to say that both the Isley's and the O'jays get automatic play for newer songs that just aren't that good. Because the Isleys and the O'Jays have the voices that you know and love....the same voices from all those years. Otis' group don't have that. So they always will be trying to find a musicial identity! The O'jays and Isleys don't have that problem.

That makes sense.

I can dig it. I think if Ali & Theo would've stayed, they would have a more definative identity. They were closest to the classic/Hall of Fame Temptations' lead singers' sound. Especially on 'For Lovers Only'.

Especially on 'For Lovers Only'. Well said. I agree. They had that David/Paul chemistry when they traded off leads. Thing is though, Theo just happens to be a better singer. Theo was more versatile, he could do the David/Dennis and Paul thing, he's remarkable.

Theo was more versatile, he could do the David/Dennis and Paul thing, he's remarkable. Theo wasn't the most versatile between himself and Ali. When Ali sang songs he didn't lead, he was spread around more on those songs than any of the others. Now this is one that I don't think anyone has though about. Theo is the only Temptation who sang any lead better than his predecessor - even the ones his predecessor originally sang. The reason Theo may have sounded like a better vocalist that Ali to some is that he sounded like he was trained. He sounded like the songs on 'For Lovers Only' fit his voice better than they did Ali's. But David/Dennis was all Ali. No one man did both any better.

I always thought for the brief amount of time THeo was there, he pushed, Ali onstage. I know I saw a better Ali when Theo was in the group.

I do like both songs a lot. The "Something Special," however, sounds more sophisticated, in my opinion. More like the real thing.
