It's a very radio friendly song. I can hear this being put in the rotation of 'Tom Joiner Morning Show'. I just don't understand why some of the same stations who consistantly play The O'jays, Isleys, Whispers new material refuse to play new quality Temptations material. People like to say "That ain't the 'real Temptations' anyway." I say that technically, it is the real ones. It's group of 5 men who have exclusive right by Motown/Universal to record as The Temptations and the right to collect music awards as The Temptations.

That is a nice song. I don't know why the Temptations aren't played as much as the Isley Brothers or O'jays either. I would go so far as to say that both the Isley's and the O'jays get automatic play for newer songs that just aren't that good.

Tune has a pretty nice groove to it. I'm thinking Melvin and Ron have the "bottom" and the "top" covered but that's Joe sounding very "authentic"! Different mixes might bring out their "mirroring" and interplay more. Sounds good. I don't know the voices anymore but that's Terry and GC trading off the lead right?? Though I wish i could "hear" Ali scatting and a live drummer all through the song I guess I can't be choosey. It just might do Something Special this summer.........Be Here & We'll hear

Yeah. If my ear for voice is still good, I think they do trade off. I believe it's Terry(1st verse), GC(1st bridge), GC(2nd verse), Terry(2nd bridge), Ron in mid tenor, GC and Terry ad lib til the end.

You mean the second single is out, already? Didn't give the other one a 50/50 chance! The label gave it a relatively fair shake (minus a video). However, radio would have none of it. I rarely agree with the choices radio makes but, in this instance, I can totally understand why radio didn't bother with it. Ed

I agree with Ed that"50/50 Love" was a mistake. I listened to "Something Special", and the guys seem to be getting back on track with this one. I'd still prefer they use REAL drums, but if the album is AT LEAST this good, then it might have a shot at being a hit. This was hard to judge though. I'm NOT a Terry Fan!

Jay, I'm not the biggest Terry Weeks fan either. Partly because of the person he 'replaced'. But he brings another dynamic to the lead that seems different than the ones who preceded him - although not rare. His vocal control is phenominal. I just wish he had that gravelly, raspy voice that David, Dennis, or Ali-Ollie had. Then he would be able to do more Ali and David leads. I've heard him stuck more on Richard, Paul, and some Dennis.

I like Terry Weeks for some reason I remember I first saw him during the Tempts performance at some football game---he was doing lead--I wasn't overjoyed because he doesn't possess that traditional Tempts lead voice. In the slot he's in now, I really enjoy his work. The Tempts also made a great pick up with G.C. Cameron, some of the stuff on his '70s albums is great. Not missing Barrington too much--his delivery was often so swarmy that it took away from his true talents.

Yes, Barrington may have been kinda swarmy. But I don't think anyone will be able to belt out 'This Is My Promise' anywhere close to the way he and Theo did it. Bo, although more tratidional sounding than Terry, sounded best on his original leads like 'How Could He Hurt You'. I wish I could've heard him sing 'Forget About It' live. That would've even made me scream. That was his best original lead.

That's my complaint with him too. He does have a wide range...I'll give him that. He can sing a song, and have you confused over who sings lead, because he has such a big range that he can sound like a different singer everytime. But, throughout the groups history, The Temptations have had a history of having a "lead" singer who has a certain power in his voice. Listen to "4 Days". He sounds to common...an everyday R&B singer. He doesn't have what it takes to be on the same level as David, Dennis, or Ali. In my opinion, he can't even stand up to Richard.
