I had this interview printed out for my folder of David Ruffin info! I don't agree, however, on the remark about Melvin and Otis. Melvin's voice was incomparable and truly made the Tempts sound like the Tempts.

Thanks, Mike..I know I read these long time ago, but never could find them again. I now have them saved in my Temptations folder so I don't have to trudge around the internet or even this board looking for them . and LOL at me, when I got to this page www.geocities.com/deruffin/Ruffinspecialphotos.htmland saw the photo of the HOF, my mind went..."What the HECK is that coming out of Melvin's nose?"

Thanks Mike I really, really, really enjoyed the interviews. I could not resist this. The articles, the photo galleries, the tributes and the C5 fan concert reviews were great and I was almost transported back in time as I read it. Thanks again for posting this!!! :yourock:

While I have never looked at Otis and Melvin as lead singers, Melvin on the other hand enjoyed leading while Otis looked as if he would rather be doing something else than out front.. I used to watch Melvin get ready to do Old Man River and he knew he was gonna kill em' when he stepped up to the mike. The five of them were so talented that I just don't think we'll ever see five men quite like that in one group again. And if you really listen to some of his leads like I COULD NEVER STOP LOVING YOU OR I TRULY TRULY BELIEVE, you will find he could sing lead very well IMO.

" "People still expect Eddie, Paul and me when they see the Temptations. They are the voices they know although, in all honesty, Dennis Edwards can be considered a true Temptation."
And in a way, we still do ... At least they still are the measure of all things good.

It's a tough legacy to live up to and we shouldn't hold the current group to those standards. I mean we have all ready said more than once that the "C-5 cannot be replaced but then on the other hand we hold the new guys out there because they don't measure up. That's tough! I have learned over the years that every combination of this group has something to offer if you really listen to them and extract them from trying to sound like the C-5. I liked Bo singing his owns songs........I like Louis Price singing his own songs....I really liked the Glenn era even though they didn't have the success that their predecessors had. There is something for everybody.

I do disagree somewhat with this statement, Aba. If they claim the name and the glory that comes with it, the group, in my opinion, has to live up to those standards.

... and that is probably what David Ruffin meant when he called Dennis Edwards a "true Temptation." His talent, his voice made Dennis an authentic Tempt -- nothing else. :clapping:

... and here's where I appreciate O's contribution to the group: he tries very hard to reach that goal.

How can he only TRY to reach that goal? As a member of the classic five, he is one-fifth of the very definition of what it means to be a Tempt.
Idn't no "trying" to it. He is.

No,he's not IT,he's a part of it. No one man is bigger than the group. He is not perfect, he didn't make it all by himself. He had help from somebody else . The other five Eddie,Paul,David Melvin and Dennis defined what it means to be a Tempt along with Otis. Isn't that the reason that six were chosen to Hall Of Fame status?
