TEMPTING musical talent for New Year’s Eve Peach Drop 2004 Presented by AirTran Airways
ATLANTA, GA: (Dec. 11) - Bring your noisemakers, party hats and thousands of your closest friends ‘cause you’re invited to the party of the year! Watch in awe as luminescent fireworks fill the cool Atlanta air while brightly colored confetti swirls around your head and champagne overfills your cup. Drawing in more than 100,000 spectators a year, the Peach Drop continues to be the Southeast’s largest New Year’s celebration! Shortly before midnight, the descent of an impressive 800-pound peach will begin the much-anticipated countdown to the New Year. The dropping of the “Big Peach” will then culminate into a beautiful explosion of music and fireworks with the breathtaking downtown Atlanta skyline as the backdrop. Throw in legendary pop-culture sensations The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, The Drifters, Cherish, Princess and Seven Sharp Nine and you’ve got an undeniable force that will sweep us straight into 2004!
“We expect the Peach Drop to draw crowds not only from the metro area, but also from across the southeast, to join together in celebration of the New Year. It’s going to be a day full of fun, so we hope everyone comes out to enjoy the festivities!” said Dan O’Leary, owner of Underground Atlanta.
The sixteen-hour celebration will begin in Kenny’s Alley and Upper Alabama Street at noon as Underground merchants, restaurants and vendors kick off the festivities with activities for all ages. Daytime activities, provided by Radio Disney, will include arts and crafts and face painting for the kids, plus yummy snacks and souvenirs for all ages. This Atlanta tradition will then continue into the night as the southeast rolls into the New Year with an amazing variety of musical acts in Kenny’s Alley and on the main stage. With artists from all different genres, there will be something to satisfy every music lover’s tastes.
Hitting the charts for the last forty years with their contemporary American pop, R&B and Motown originals, The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards are escaping the cold winter of their Detroit home and heading south for the winter to help us ring in the new year. With platinum winning classics like, “My Girl” and “Stay,” The Temptations will definitely make a lasting impression in New Year’s memories for years to come.
Another legendary musical group that has introduced new tunes and talent to the music scene for nearly half a century, The Drifters have put on shows for four U.S. Presidents and the Queen of England. This New Year’s Eve, they are here in Atlanta to showcase their polished choreography, special effects and smooth patter, but most of all, the patented Drifter’s sound that everyone loves.
Peach Drop patrons can check out the R & B sounds of the talented local teen sister group, Cherish, whose résumé includes an album produced by Jermaine Dupri, a tour with Bow Wow, and their hit single, “Miss P,” featuring platinum recording artist Da Brat. Local rockers, Princess will be joining the festivities as they perform their perfect blend off alternative rock. Look for a new release from these Atlantan's early in 2004.
Kicking off the live music at 6pm on the main stage is the award-winning local rock band, Seven Sharp Nine. Their first single “Wherever You Are,” as well as the follow-up single “Words,” is currently receiving airplay on radio stations across the country and is regularly being added to more stations as the buzz around Seven Sharp Nine spreads.
For the safety & enjoyment of Peach Drop, Underground Atlanta asks that the following items NOT be brought onto the property: Pets, Bags, Backpacks, Coolers, Picnic Baskets, Recording Devices, Roller Blades, Bikes, Skateboards, Lawn Chairs, Cameras, Weapons and Alcoholic Beverages.
The Peach Drop is an Underground Atlanta event and will be broadcast live on WXIA, Channel 11, Atlanta’s local NBC affiliate. It will also be syndicated in markets throughout the Southeast.
