LOS ANGELES, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Yule love 20TH CENTURY MASTERS/THE CHRISTMAS COLLECTION. The new UMe series, with all 23 albums released September 23, 2003, is a spin-off of 20TH CENTURY MASTERS/THE MILLENNIUM COLLECTION, which features "best of" albums from the most significant music artists of the past century and, with shipments of more than 22 million albums since its inception in 1999, is the most successful single artist series in history.
The following are the Motown-plus-one R&B releases for 20TH CENTURY MASTERS/THE CHRISTMAS COLLECTION:
THE BEST OF MOTOWN CHRISTMAS (Motown/UMe) is a new compilation of 12 of the greatest Motown-arranged Christmas chestnuts from the labels' holiday albums. Heard are such classics as The Supremes' "My Favorite Things," the Jackson 5's "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" The Temptations' "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" and the Temps duetting with Smokey Robinson on "The Christmas Song," plus originals by Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Kim Weston, The Miracles, and Four Tops, singing with their pal Aretha Franklin. Also represented are The Funk Brothers, Motown's Grammy®-winning house band, who put an awesome groove to "Winter Wonderland."
THE BEST OF JACKSON 5 (Motown/UMe) returns Michael, Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Jackie's #1-charting CHRISTMAS ALBUM to the shelves. The original, charming 1970 album boasts both traditional and contemporary songs; it is now newly remastered for the first time. Added as a bonus track to the CD is the hard-to-find early '70s song, "Little Christmas Tree," originally released as a Michael Jackson solo recording.
THE BEST OF THE SUPREMES (Motown/UMe) reissues the 1999 version of the group's Top 10 1965 album MERRY CHRISTMAS. Added in 1999 were bonus session tracks that did not make it onto LP the first time around: "The Christmas Song," "Just A Lonely Christmas," "Silent Night" (featuring Florence Ballard in a rare lead vocal) and Diana's sweet rendition of "Noel," mixed from the original session tapes.
THE BEST OF THE TEMPTATIONS (Motown/UMe) repackages 2001's THE BEST OF THE TEMPTATIONS CHRISTMAS, which collected for the first time on one album the cream from 1970's CHRISTMAS CARD and 1980's GIVE LOVE AT CHRISTMAS, two revered albums of holiday soul, plus added a never-before-released performance of "Oh Holy Night," an outtake from the 1980 sessions.
THE BEST OF SMOKEY ROBINSON & THE MIRACLES (Motown/UMe) reissues the 1999 collection OUR VERY BEST CHRISTMAS which combined 14 of the best selections from 1963's CHRISTMAS WITH THE MIRACLES and 1970's THE SEASON FOR MIRACLES, plus one recording, "Christmas Lullaby," culled from a 1968 multi-artist compilation.
THE BEST OF BOYZ II MEN (Motown/UMe) is a reissue of the hitmaking ensemble's 1993 album CHRISTMAS INTERPRETATIONS, an album of all-new songs written by the group (other than an a cappella "Silent Night") and featuring Brian McKnight. The album was a Top 20 pop/Top 10 R&B smash and included "Let It Snow," a collaboration with McKnight that reached the Top 40 pop/Top 20 R&B.
THE BEST OF 98 DEGREES (Universal/UMe), whose first albums were released on Motown, now reissues THIS CHRISTMAS, its first Universal album. First issued in 1999, the album was a Top 30 hit which was certified platinum and included the Top 40 pop version of "This Gift" as well as more traditional fare.
