MOTOWN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION STEPPING UP IN A BIG WAY IN 2004
Motown Alumni Association planning series of events; MAAM Festival, Motown Walk of Fame, and the Paul Wiliams Convention in Detroit
DETROIT, MI (PRWEB) August, 2003 -- The world's largest social club for a record company (Motown) is stepping up it's visibility in the public eye. The Motown Alumni Association which is made up of Motown Records alumnus, and fans is incorporating various Detroit personalities to bring the famed Motor City back into the entertainment limelight. The MAA is planning an extravaganza of events and programs that would boggles the Motown music lovers mind.
The events planned are The 1st Annual Motown Alumni Association Music Festival, The Motown Walk Of Fame, the MAA Music Awards, and the 1st Annual Paul Williams Music Conference. All of the events are spearheaded through the MAA and various private individuals within the city of Detroit.
Though the details are very sketchy at the moment, the expected entertainment at the MAAM Festival reads as the Who's Who of Motown artisticness.
Though no artist has been contacted yet, the list of people to be asked to come perform will be The Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, The Four Tops, Kim Weston, Gladys Horton the original lead singer of the Marvelettes, The Velvelettes, The Contours, Eric and the Vikings, Brenda Holloway, Tina Marie, The Jackson 5, Ozone, The Commodores, Lionel Richie, Johnny Bristol, Barrett Strong, The Spinners, the Parliaments, Sly Slick & Wicked, Jr. Walker's All Star Band, and many, many, more!
Planners say that they want to have the event at the new Lions Football stadium (Ford Field), and they are hoping that the stadium owners are responsive to the show plans. The MAA Award show is expected to be televised via satellite and radio broadcast.
The Motown Walk Of Fame is also in the planning stage. Famed Detroit attorney Gregory Reed who also handles civil rights activist Rosa Park's legal affairs, sits on the committee of the Walk of Fame project. The expected place of the WOF is either in front of the renowned Fox Theater on Woodward in Detroit, or in front of the Motown Museum which is located about 5 miles north of downtown Detroit. Planners say that over 50 stars will be embedded into the sidewalk during the first series of ceremonies.
The last event will be the 1st Annual Paul Williams Convention, planned by Williams' younger brother Joe Williams. Paul was one of the original members of the Temptations during the early and mid 60's. He was found dead of a gunshot wound near the what is now the Motown Museum in the late 60's. William's brother Joe, wants the world to know that "My Brother was a good man." " I want to do something to honor his legacy." William's event is expected to take place April 22, 2004 at Ford Field also, the first day of a weekend of Motownmania.
The Motown Alumni Association planners say that everything is only in the planning stage, and all parties have yet to agree to the proposal. They say that when everything is in place, they believe they will have developed the largest Motown music related forum ever. Planner believe that Motown the city will redevelop the pride that they had in the 60's. Planner believe that the city will come out to support the artists, and they expect over 200,000 fans to attend the weekend of events.
Over 70 artist are expected to attend this reunion of the "Motor City Revue"; The proposed date is April 22, 23, and 24, 2004.
