Motown
Funk Brothers visit White House next week
By Detroit News staff reports and wire services
Motown's Funk Brothers will cap off their triumphant year this Tuesday by visiting President George W. Bush in Washington, D.C. The famed Motown studio band, subject of the 2002 film "Standing in the Shadows of Motown," won't perform but will visit the president as the White House observes Black Music Month. The Funks are also performing a variety of dates around the country this summer, including July 17 at the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa, Calif., with Phoebe Snow, Bobby Caldwell, Vonda Shepard and possibly Elvis Costello, and locally, Aug. 21, at the Meadow Brook Music Festival in Rochester
