Remember Superman, I mean Sukka, it's perfectly ok if someone doesn't want to use their photo for their avatar. We don't want to make folks feel pressured, ok.

The title of this thread says it all. New Temptations Capture Old Magic.
I'm going to another concert soon, but at the two I saw a week and a half ago people were overwhelmed by how good the Temptations were. Their comments ranged from, "They were so professional" to "so classy and elegant" to "I never dreamed they had so many hits" to "how beautifully they sang."
Their comment about being professional made me wonder if they had seen a "Temptation" group they had not considered very professional and been disappointed because the person who said that had also said, "I hope they're professional" before the concert. And then at the end she said she had been awed by the quality and professionalism.
Somehow the remark reminded me of Cholly Atkins. Even in his 80's, he was a polished dancer.
To say these Temptations are good does not take anything away from the Classic Five nor do the Classic Five take anything away from the present Temptations. Nor would it take anything away from Temptations performing 40 years in the future.

It should be noted that because I have seen all the different versions of the group that I can say without a doubt that all those shows I have seen there was never anyone who indicated to me that they had seen a rowdy group of unprofessional Temptations. The qualities you mentioned are what they stand for and from all my time spent with them they would not have an unprofessional member in the group. At least not for long.
But as far as the current group being good not taking anything away from the C-5, well that is how it should be. Those who attend show thinking that they will see the C-5 will leave disappointed but if they go in knowing that these guys are attempting to live up to the standards set by the C-5 then they can enjoy the show. That can apply to the Review as well. Even though they have an HOF lead singer they are not the C-5 either. But they are professional and you would be happy to see them perfom as well.

I doubt it. I think that speaks more to the present state of entertainment than it does to another Tempts group. For one thing, I doubt very few of the average Tempts' concert goer has seen another one of the groups to be able to compare them. The other reason I doubt that is that I've seen the Tempts, the Review and Damon, Richard and Ali and a group they had assembled. I've yet to see ANY of those assemblages act unprofessionally. All of these guys are Tempts, they would have never made it into the group to begin with if they weren't consummate professionals on stage.
I bet they were talking about either music in general, or maybe other "oldies" groups that they'd seen in the past. Or perhaps they were pleased that the Tempts, 40 years later, were able to capture the class that the classic Tempts brought.

You mean David Ruffin ,too? :hairraiser:They never saw the Classic five,or HOF 6,they don't have to take anything away from anyone who came arter them. HOF6 set the standard on which the others ATTEMPT to follow! Everyone after them(HOF6) fall short! And quite a DISTANTS too!

the fact that jane heard people say i didn't know the tempts had so many hits and that they didn't know they were so professional sounds like they are casual fans or very passive fans that have little or no deep interest in the tempts like we do. that is fine. it takes all kinds to fill up the seats, and the promoters and the tempts will take whatever they can. but to hear that sounds like they haven't been to a tempts concert before. that is no indication that the current temptations are so great- it is nice that they try to follow the footsteps in imitationg the hof6- but the way shows are these days-the discriminating fans with some serious background can discern whether the boys were really good or off.

jane, you really have indicated how much you love this current lineup. aren't you sick and tired of the butchering of my girl by now? that would turn me off to not going again when the best tempts song ever is never sung by the group but by fans.

I think everyone is sick of that My Girl section of their concerts. It would be nice to just let them sing it and forget about the 'audience participation'. It has truly worn out its welcome

It has truly worn out its welcome Well is there anyway the Temptations know this. Maybe they would listen and change that part of the show if someone could pass messages like this on to them? Any ideas?

Aba - that's your cue! Tell them to DROP that part of the show. Most of their fans hate it!

Nawww. I have a better idea. Give them the word to bring tdallasw up to the stage the next time...let HER sing "My Girl"...then she'll have a whole new outlook on that part of the show. ;D

NO I wouldn't. I'd rather speak to them backstage and leave the singing to them. I have no aspirations to be on stage singing anything. I sing in a lot of choirs, but not as a LEAD singer. Like Otis, I know my place.
