Concert was a rip-off Published: May 26, 2003, 06:00:18 AM PDT I recently attended the $100-per-ticket Temptations performance at Modesto Centre Plaza. What a disaster. For this price of admission, in most entertainment venues you can see world-class performers in comfortable surroundings with good acoustics and good food. Instead, I was subjected to an evening more suited to a high school gym, which appeared to have been planned by students. The meal was buffet-style and cold, and lines were long and slow. It was difficult to find a seat. There were no drinks included with the meal unless you drink coffee (I do not). No water, but if you could tackle the lines at the bar you could buy alcohol or soft drinks at highly inflated prices. The next surprise was the seating. It consisted of stools and small tables that were being moved by the guests to any position they wished, even onto the dance floor. Walkways to several exits ended up blocked or crowded, causing what I believe to be a safety hazard. The last surprise was the sound system and acoustics, where the music was so loud that the lyrics could barely be heard. All in all, the concert was a major disappointment due to the lack of planning and preparation, not the performers, and left me feeling ripped off. Jonel....was this the concert that our Kalisa attended? If so there seemed to be obvious differences of opinons. At least he didn't disparge the singers.
BTW...how are you? Hope all is well with you and your family and your holiday was nice!

Wow, I think this is the first negative review I've seen here. I'd be mad too if I paid $100 for that. Iy'd be even worse if the singers sucked too.

Its the same concert I went to, and he didn't lie about a thing. The food was barely palatable, the lines long and slow if you weren't there early (we were second in line ), and the seating was abyssmally uncoordinated for an event this size. Some very nice people joined us at our table in the show room, and they arrived at 6:20 for a 6 p.m. dinner, and the food had run out. That was unconscionable on the part of the coordinators, they knew how many dinners had been sold. But the show was great, we had good seats and besides, who sat when the Tempts were singing? NOT ME!

That's too bad. I'm glad you enjoyed the show though. $100 is a lot to not be serves decent food and plenty of it. How many people would you guess attended?

I have no idea on numbers, Aba. I'd guess about 1000 to 1500, it was not that large a place. Then again, I'm no good at guess-timating ...

Hey there Aba21! I'm doing good. Not much of a holiday, though, beings I HAD TO WORK But, at least I have a job and eventually a paycheck. Reading this guy's review, got me thinking of my favorite, best, all time venue to see the Temptations. And I hope, if I ever have the opportunity again, that I'll be able to see the Temptations perform at The Homestead. That HAD to be the best possible venue in my opinion. The Homestead people really did it up right too. They had a 4th of July celebration package, complete with a barbecue buffet, Temptations' concert and fireworks. It was a great idea because they included two night's lodging, the pre-show buffet, breakfast the next morning and a four course dinner the next night. I think we paid $1,000 for the two of us but it was more like a two-day cruise event, but that included meals, lodging and the show and we only had to drive less than 50 miles LOL! They have the Independence Day package listed on their calendar this year, but it doesn't say who the concert artists will be. www.thehomestead.com/welcome/calendar.asp

The Review fans were treated better in Queens! And for sixty dollars less, and had a better show !

Jonel...when you add it all up, $1000 for the weekend was not bad. You got plentyof food and lots of fun and a concert to boot that you enjoyed. Sounds like money well spent!
