This week's Billboard magazine has a full-page ad for the forthcoming two-disc DVD edition of the Funk Brothers movie. There will also be a VHS version as well. The release date is April 22, 2003.
Inside stuff: there will be a FOUR-disc 'deluxe' version of the DVD coming as well. Details to be announced.
I guess this announcement should have been in this category.

So was I, but Motown said it was probably because it did not meet their criteria for documentary, something about re-creations.
It must have been something like that because it was named as best documentary by such prestigious groups, most of which are regarded as better than an Oscar.
Since I haven't seen it for myself, only the trailers, I don't really know. But the trailers were sensational. However, I did wonder why they didn't use films of the original groups. I thought some of the current singers were a bit weak.
