Shout outs to ((((((((((((((((((((Everybody))))))))))))))) in this thread!!!
Hey ((((ABA)))! My son and nephew Love Tupac. While I wouldn't buy his cds, I think Snoop is cool. I Like KC and JoJo too.
Since I've gotten so into the Tempts in the fall of 1999, I rarely watch t.v. I may catch a show I may be interested in that my son has on in his room now and then. LOL@Twilight Zone and Sandford and Son. That's Good one. LOL!!
Hey ((((earthangel))))! I Like LL Cool J's "Love You Better" too. Do you know what LL Cool J stand for? I just found that out. LOL!!
Hey ((((Iratherlikeme))))! I like the Grandmother song too, but they should have left the Spinners' "Sadie" alone. ;D LOL!! I got a chance to hear "Sadie " live by the Spinners where they performed with the Tempts at my "DCT" Ravinia concert in Sept. 2000. That was Nice. It bought tear to me and my sister's eyes.
Hey (((Kim)))! Are you sure that was Paul's wife in that picture in Otis' book? I don't know if they still have it, but at one time Paul's family had a web site on Paul, and there was a picture of Paul's wife and she looks darker skinned where the lady in the picture with Paul with lighter skin. Now that I think about it that picture shouldn't have been used in the book. TTYAL!

I have to agree, the Temptations are stronger than ever. but it's not because of the line up, but more or less because they are still current and still great. Now, this happens to be my favorite line up, even though I like other line certain qualities of other line ups better. If I had my way, it would be Glenn, Bo, Richard, Ali, Harry. But of course I don't have my way.
I think the fact of the matter is that as long as the Tempts keep going, they will get stronger. I think they need to push Ron more as the hier, though. It lends legitimacy to me. But that that's just me. The reason the Tempts will stay strong and only get stronger is because they have the best singers. You can't say that for any other group. Alot of other group only have marginal singers or have one great singer. But that's not good. You can do only so much with a marginal singer and if you only have one great singer, when he goes your group goes.
The temptations need to keep building themselves as an American institution like the NY philharmonic. Then they will keep going what they have that works for them. The best singers and a name that out lasts thier songs. See, Earth Wind and Fire has a name that outlasts thier songs and a great lead. But when Phillip B goes, that group is toast. Kool and the Gang has songs that are bigger than the group and an no name lead singer, who I think is being replaced or getting replaced.
The tempts have niether problem. Thier history is like that of any major institution. It involves turn over and eras. the ruffin era, the edwards era, the williams/kendrick era, the street era, the woodson . . . see what I mean. And they are all marginally popular to infamous. They just need to market themselves on every talk show, TV show, new artist video and everything. They will the the biggest institution in Black music if they do it.
But I say this all to say, yes, they are stronger than ever.

Well, they're stuck in between a rock and a hard place. They can't get any attention from radio because radio sees them as an oldies group. The can't get past the oldies group thing because that's what pays the bills. And while I'm thinking about it, why are the Isley Brothers getting all the good songs lately! Tell me the Tempts couldn't tear up that latest song of theirs! "What Would You Do...."

Tell me the Tempts couldn't tear up that latest song of theirs! "What Would You Do...." They need a new marketing machine. They need to find a very popular young cat to colab with. Someone like Brian Mcknight or that Justin Timberlake kid. THey can do that. I just don't think that they want to isolate themselves from thier audience. An album of songs with a young cat or a few young cats would put them back on top.

you know there have been tribute albums done by other artists-like beatles songs sung by others, elton john songs done by others, fleetwood mac songs and led zeppelin songs.
why not a duets album like frank sinatra did with sting, gloria estefan, anita baker, etc.? the tempts could have lots of guest singers do a duet deal with them. look at rick james and standing on the top! that worked !
