i was listening to "TRULY FOR YOU" in the car the other day. Ali Ollie Woodson did some great vocals on that CD. "Treat Her like a Lady" was the main song but the whole album is worth a listen.
it was Ali's first album with the tempts and the brother came out smokin.....also this was produced by Earth, Wind & Fire.....I wonder why Otis never asked them to do another project. hmmmmmmmmm

anyone know why he left in the first place? I just finished watching he on I think motown 30.......... Dude was off the hook................ Ali was let go from the Temps one time because of his orange hair it is said. ;D I don't know how true that was but I think it has som, ething to do with DEnnis coming back for one more lp.........Together Again..........then ALi was here to stay. Ali has said he left the group and others have said he was let go but central to the arguement was money. He wanted more and Otis didn't want to pay more. There was another story that came to my attention which I believe to be the last straw but that is not for print. ;D Suffice it to say it had nothing to do with drugs and alcohol........ I thought ALi was the last great lead they had in the group. He came into his own the second time around with songs like LAdy SOul and SOul TO SOul and Hoops of Fire and Special...........ending with Some Enchanted Evening. I enjoyed watching him perform and they miss him. I really thought they were aboiut to be real solid when Theo joined then and he and ALi really played off each other well..........

The lineup with Ali is one of my favorites....I have my list of CD's that Ali was on and have been trying hard to come across them on ebay....I really wish he was still with The Tempts...he bought so much to the group ..

I was watching BET's Lift Every Voice this past sunday morning and saw a new video by a young female gospel group named Rizen and Ali was singing with them on a song called Take Care of Me. They were really cooking with gas as my uncle use to say. It made me think about my favorite Temptations song which is a gospel song with Ali, Theo, Otis, Ron and Melvin giving an incredible testimony at the beginning about his being shot. It's called Broken Pieces and the combination of Ali and Theo really play off of each other magnificently. On this song the Tempts give gospel greats The Williams Brothers, Canton Spirtuals, The Christianaires and the Mighty Clouds of Joy a good run for their money.

Actually "Lady Soul" was Woodson's 2nd hit after "Treat Her Like A Lady", before Dennis came back. And he was not dropped for Dennis, but he got fired because he when he took a vacation home, word got out he was bad-mouthing the group. Then Dennis was re-hired at Ron's recommendation.

Ali was not let go because of orange hair. He was not hired the first time he tried out for the Temptations because of orange hair. The next time he tried out he did not have orange hair.
Ali never really wanted to be a group singer. As Maurice Watts agrees, Ali is a soloist and prefers being a soloist. He sings with groups a times because he has to make a living. I remember asking a musician once what type of music he preferred playing: classical, jazz, pop, soul, R& B, etc. "Whatever kind they will pay me to play," he responded.
