For those of who you despise Kenny G., you'll love reading this horrific dismemberment of the curly-haired sax blower. Check this out: Pat Metheny on Kenny G.Ed

P.S.: There's not a single Jazz act involved in the Capital Jazz Fest. There hasn't been in quite a while. Amazing what people refer to as "Jazz" these days.

Joe Sample started as a Jazz artist but he started playing fusion early on and now he's instrumental R&B all the way. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that the players on the bill are beneath contempt or anything. I'm just saying that they aren't Jazz by any stretch of the imagination.

Ed I always thought Spyro was kind of jazzy. To be fair, it does say "and more". Lots and lots of "and more"! ;D Enjoy your festival! ...get ready...

Spyro Gyra is mostly instrumental pop. Again, it's not that they aren't good. They just aren't jazz.

They're still stocked in the "Jazz" section which makes little sense. Most, if not all, the acts termed "smooth jazz" are essentially R&B and pop acts without the instruments or R&B-inflected Pop music. You gotta love the way the term "jazz" is thrown around so freely. When I think of "jazz", I don't think of Boney James or Richard Elliott - neither of whom do anything even remotely related to "jazz". I think of Thelonius, Duke, Ahmad Jamal and the like. Ed

Check this out: Pat Metheny on Kenny G.Ed This is an excellent read....This basically verifies everything I always thought about Kenny G...I personally thought his stuff was BOrrringg and definetly not Jazz.

Ed Ed, I don't remember the fusion period, I just remember his "crusaders" period and then the solo albums. I saw him in a solo concert in Greenboro a number of years ago and he was awesome.....this man plays and knows his "Instrument".

Ed You can be our jazz man! How about a thread listing 25 of your favorite jazz artists or bands, Ed-O? I'm sure I will have heard of most of the older ones, but who is jazz and young? ...if your first lover broke your heart...

Oh I see, they hadn't invented "advertising" yet. ;D
