As Glenn Jr. mentioned on another thread, Glenn Leonard and his Temptations Experience appeared in San Bernardino, CA on Friday Nite...and *I* was there!
. I hadn't gotten to see Glenn perform before, and I LOVE his voice, and I love the Temptations and everyone who has been a Temptation...and I'd heard whispers that Ray Davis might be there too....and he WAS!!
Glenn soared through the stratosphere on "Try to Remember" and "Can I"...his voice is as pure and clean and beautiful as ever. When he was singing back-up, his vocals shone thru and sparkled, making for that beautiful Tempts harmony we all know and love. His group is really good, and puts a lot of energy into everything they sing and dance-step. I loved the way Glenn started out "I wish it would rain", doing what they usually save for the end of the song and ad libbing, but he did it before their "Ruffin Guy" (Freddy) started singing the actual song.
Ray Davis was a very special treat, he just hit the bottombottombottom of the well, during Old Man River. Simply magnificent!! This was the only song he did, the rest of the bass was covered by Glenn's regular bass singer John.
Glenn brought tears to my eyes during his tribute, with the chords to "This used to be the Home of Johnnie Mae" in the background, paying tribute each of the departed Classic 5 singers, and singing "but he's not here no more, no more" after each (for Eddie, he did the whole "This used to be the home of Eddie K, but he's not here no more no moooorre"). It was very stirring. But this was not just a tribute to those departed, it was a tribute to those who started it all, and Glenn said "I believe in giving flowers to those who are still with us, who can still smell the magnificent perfume", and went on to "pay tribute to one who knows how to be a leader from the background...Mr. Otis Williams". I can't help but think "That is SOOOOO classy!!" the way he did it all.
Between shows I spotted a very handsome young man who looked familiar...he was a dead ringer for the photo we've seen of Glenn Jr...and so it was. So being brave, I asked if it was him, and introduced myself and of course he had no clue who I was at first but put on a good front
, and we chatted...and his lovely mother was there too!! She is as beautiful as ever, and of course silly me didn't recognize her right off and asked if she was Glenn Jr's wife ... LOL...yep, well she sure looks like she COULD be!!
I had a wonderful time, and thoroughly enjoyed both shows!!
